Japanese. Used. Over 200 but below 500 displacement. Cruiser or naked/standard (for insurance purposes).

Look the wiring over (seriously spend at least a half hour examining the wiring diagram) if the bike is old.

I just bought my first bike 3 weeks ago. I got a 2009 suzuki boulevard s40.

It's got 650 cc so enough power that I can get up to a decent speed on the highway but not so much I'll kill myself if I make a mistake. It's light enough at 380 pounds so a newbie like me can handle it and it was cheap (2000 out the door price) so I can easily flip it and not lose much when I decide to upgrade to my big boy bike.

I'm sure there are a bunch of similar bikes out there with similar characteristics, just grab one and learn.

I've got a 2007 Honda CBR-650rr. I bought it used. Even used, it's a pretty nice ride. You're not hunched over too far over the tank. The CBR's are a nice line.

Used and cheap. Within a decade or two ols and it'll probably be your most reliable transportation.

Buy a used bike, never buy a new one from the stealership regardless of brand. If you have never ridden, get a lighter small engine bike to learn on. You can get a nice ninja 250 or a sportster for 1k or so you look around.

depends on what riding style you want. It also depends on how big of a guy you are weight wise. Start off with a lower cc bike until you become proficient and work up. Learn to walk before trying to run so to speak or you will kill yourself.

I’ve been shopping around for my first bike as well. I keep hearing ninja 250 is a good starter bike for learners. But just do plenty of research bc accidents will happen.

Congratulations , i did this for first time just over a year ago. The only thing i can suggest is buy what you feel comfortable with,some people opt for a starter bike and upgrade with in a year or so, by chance and good deal i ended up with a big bike and wouldn't have done it any other way for me, i plan to keep it forever basically. Best advice i can give is take the MSF Course. It helped a lot. Ride safe bro , enjoy!

Depends on what you want. Cruiser, sport, dirt, etc.

IMO

For a Cruiser as a starter bike Honda Shadow 750. More comfortable than sport. Dependable Honda engine. Not too much power for a beginner. Small and light.

For a Sport I don’t have much experience with but my first bike ever was a Honda CBR 600. Great bike but can be intimidating for a beginner.

Or the much less intimidating option go with Honda Grom. Very small and very easy to learn on. Top speeds around 70 or 80 I believe.

I know it’s all Honda’s but what can you say, they make great dependable low maintenance engines.

congrats but 1st and foremost buy (and always wear) safety gear.

as others stated, a used bike is best for the 1st sled.

I used to ride, but been in (and seen) a few too many wrecks to continue. even dirtbikes, which I love, I haven't ridden in years, but all my gear has saved me numerous times.

I was at the dealer and sat on a Honda 250 dual sport and I thought About adding it to the collection. It seemed pretty neat. It's basically an off-road bike with a little more steerable tires and lights to make it street legal. That coukd be fun. It's a little tall.

The cruisers are nice, but kinda boring, the sportbikes are not insurable.

I prefer a "Standard" bike, CB500, GS500, EX500, 650Vstrom, etc...

My first bike was over 11 years ago. Here is a list of things you should consider:

always have your helmet and jacket on you.
dont let yourself carried away into high speeds/risky manouvers
dont chase fast cars/bikes

As for the type of bike: Chose whatever makes you happy, aspect wise, performance wise. I own a CBR 600 F4i, because i'm into sport bikes. You just need to take your time and think what kind of bike you like.
