They're saying worldwide, Captain Marvel grossed $455 million in ticket sales.

If we presume that everyone who went paid $15 a ticket to see the film (which is give or take, the average cost for most top name theaters), that means roughly 30,333,333 people internationally saw the movie opening weekend. There's over 300 million people in the USA alone. That's not even 1/3 of the US population. Asia carried opening box office.

1) They made deals with the distributors to get the maximum number of theatres (4,310) in the USA this weekend.
2) They starved all other new releases this weekend from acquiring enough theatres, to compete.
3) The average earnings per theatre / room was $35,499, meaning they got the biggest rooms at the high end of the ticket price range.
4) Most other films lost screenings, to give space for CM, and probably got demoted to smaller rooms.
5) Few new releases CM this weekend - CM is timed for low competition.
6) The feminist narrative coincided with releasing it on Women's Day.

Disney dumped so much money into the movie (and Captain Marvel as the new face of Marvel, specifically), it's only natural that they would do literally everything they can to save a multi-billion dollar franchise up to and including actual deception and propaganda.

Sadly, it will work. Just like how Star Wars fans literally cannot help themselves but feed the machine that shits on them in exchange for their loyalty, Marvel movie fans will continue to feed this beast and allow it to pump misandry into the mainstream and glorify it for all to see. Buckle up, because you are going to see PLENTY more misandry in the near future.

I read it was only 61 million dollars domestic. 160m world wide, and it opened in more theaters than star wars 7, something like 4300+.

That's really shitty for a Marvel film at this point in the series.

Those "empty" rooms make it seem like the only people who saw it were the ones who wanted to boycott it...it makes no sense that most of the rooms have literally no one else...also the movie hasnt even started, they couldve gone way before...i didnt went on opening night because i had to work but i went saturday and it was full

The gaming on both sides is becoming more apparent.

To boost your numbers for before-release ticket sales, get the ticket-masters in on the game by only listing your movie on their sites.
Release it in a small English speaking market before US release to guage opinion and prepare the after release spin.
Release it in the dead zone of time before the money making season is ramping up.
Release it in more theaters than any other movie before.

Brigading was a part of the critical assessment before and after release. That's a feature, not a bug. Instead of deleting the numbers, do what they do in sports records: add an asterisk.

So, it had a feminist agenda? Every movie has an agenda. Controversy is generally good for buzz. Calibrated prejudice against the right straw man is another.

The way to let a company know what doesn't work is to not buy their products. This is what pirating is for. That kind of pushback is what Disney will hear.
