I think it’s better to get a single high-performance GPU over two lesser cards for Crossfire or SLI. You may not always see any improvement while running multiple GPUs, depending on your applications, and if your system gets FUBAR, it’s better to have to replace one GPU instead of multiple.

I’m running the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which I’ve had for four years now, and there hasn’t been a game I’ve thrown its way that it can’t handle. I’m interested in the RTX series, but it may be a while before I’m ready to start upgrading.

Going a little overboard on the cpu imo, unless you're trying to do 3d modeling or have 200 chrome tabs open at a time but you do you.

As for the gpu, if money isn't a problem, the rtx2080ti is probably the gold standard right now though if you don't care about ray tracing (not many games out that use it so far afaik) then the gtx1080ti should still handle stuff well for a few years

Sli is dumb, stutter and bad optimisation - don’t do it, For a card get a nvidea as they have the least problems with things like vr and shadow play is good. Second hand 10 series like the 1080 or 1070 are great value right now but 2070s+ do have a noticeable difference in performance.

SLI is deprecated, it's all Nvlink now and I don't know what (probably broken) contraption AMD has now. I personally don't have experience with AMD CPUs (specs look like really great value for a fair price) but the last AMD GPU I had would frequently kick the bucket when it came to drivers (blue screens and reboot-worthy freezes). For video rendering a GTX 1080 would probably be fine. (Don't think there's any need to spend money on an RTX card because you don't need raytracing to edit video).

32 core CPU for 2 grand?? That's awesome. I will totally buy one of these in 3 years when the price is considerably cheaper. My 8 core AMD CPU's were less than 100 bucks and are fast enough for what I throw at them. I'm going to say NVIDIA because CUDA just has better support on a variety of platforms. OpenCL/AMD is cheaper price-wise and on par speed-wise, but it's not significantly better and doesn't have the wide-ranging platform support.
