Well... I sure know alot about nothing then... have been living in Central America total immersion for 25 years, in rural Latin culture the whole time, and not in gringo culture, and only having one gringo friend at a distance. All my Latin TV viewing has been in Latin houses. And watching Latin males watching novelas too...

In fact for many years only one TV channel available in rural areas and it was 90% Novelas.

And the men were right there watching if not out of the house chopping brush in pastures or sawing lumber in the jungle, working with pigs and cattle, or fishing etc.

All of which I was often with them for.

Maybe its your experience with latin culture thats limited?

Which is why I pointed out that Americanized were quite different.

Also it depends on country. Mexico is much more Americanized than the rest of Central America except Panama. And I've traveled in Every country Except Belieze, which isnt Latin anyway... Also have been as far south as Peru and spent more time than I wanted to there...

And have traveled the entire length from the US to Panama, me driving, navigating, dealing with border crosses and everything else. Also have spent time in Latin communities in the US, Where I was basically the only white guy fluent in street Spanish.

Its different dialects everywhere, but I know the difference between a Zapoté and a Pizoté....

And I also have a Latina daughter in law who didnt speak any "Inglis" when I saw her off to the US about 15 years ago...

Maybe you should consider doing a bit of a tour of Mexico and Latin America? Instead of looking thru the fence and thinking you know everything....

It would likely help your Spanish, and your grasp on your fortunate reality, and maybe an appreciation for things you might have lost?

I wander here where I will...

Perfectly comfortable and acclimatized to the culture and know it in many ways better than they know themselves....

Have to agree with you there!

The Novelas are in fact designed for the women, but the men are affected! At least by the drama styles the women pick up and copy from them...

And I never said in my original writ that the males really liked the Novelas. Some actually arent too bad and have more depth than others. But it is a cultural thing, as are the higher levels of passion in the cultures.

And you seem to agree with my point about being manginas! Gawd! the women run the place!

Not always, not always sucessfully, but its generally quite the show to watch...

And there have been alot of changes in society here since I arrived...

Kid count has dropped from an average of maybe around nine, to one or two.

And glad you arent in Venezuela right now... wouldnt wish that on anyone, and hope to travel there someday when things are better. People there went from the fire of rabid capitalism to the frying pan of rabid socialism...

Its not been good for as long as I've been down here. And you know about the realities of low trust culture...

Sure your perspectives have grown. And probably realized some of the similarities in American culture too.

Oh shit!

Well... Dont know what to say... except all the people in Colombia likely dont have passports.

You might ask some questions on the Columbian side migraccion, sometimes theres temporary entering documentation, and sometimes you can renew passports at your embassy in other countries.

ie enter on your Cedula and then goto the embassy/consular to renew passport perhaps.

Dont know the on the ground conditions in Venezuela, but if you can get that passport renewed it might be a good idea in case things get alot worse...

There's problems brewing on the far side of the planet that could spill over into Venezuela... I'd say at least get out of the major urban areas if possible...

Much safer in the campo, and more food likely.

I'm always posting stuff about the value of having food security...

I bet you can relate...
