These jobs are always going to be 99% men. I can't imagine (at present) any kind of legislation, any kind of initiative or anything short of another world war that could even possibly push enough women into physical labor to change that.

I'm a union electrician working at an industrial manufacturing facility with well over 400 electricians on site alone, and I can count the number of women doing our job with both hands and maybe a few toes tops.

You know where the women are? It's not the pipe fitters, they have a lot of heavy shit to lift. It's not the welders who are walking steel beams 55ft in the air, in the 100 degree heat using 480volts of electricity to fuse steel. It's not even the the general contractor who just does miscellaneous shit.

They're the building maintenance. They clean up bathrooms, take out trash, whatever.

Most of them know full well how much the trade workers make and the smart ones are always flirting with the cream of the crap looking dudes. It's not that they are being blocked from entering the trades, unions will take anyone even with zero exper ince, their biological imperative is blocking them. They just don't want to do the work.

I have worked as a brick, block or stone mason in some fashion for most of my life. The only time I have seen a woman working in our trade is when we brought them... and they only lasted a day. I am not sure how unions work but if you work for a private company you don't start laying the bricks without experience right out of the gate. You do the more physically demanding job of labouring ie building scaffolding, making mortar and moving materials. A couple of hours of that at an acceptable pace and most people decide they are not cut out for it. That being said if she has worked her way up to laying the actual brick then she would have muscles bulging out of her neck and far less dainty hands... And someone tell her to raise her goddamned planks! How the fuck can she see what she is doing when she is working above her head like that?

At my job which is fast manual labor, every job that’s not super physical is given to girls, but they do make some do manual labor just not the super heavy jobs, I think it’s almost good but I just wish I could get one of the easier woman jobs.
