Nah, maybe when they couldn’t get jobs. But now? There’s little reason outside of personal choice to stay at home for 20 years and raise kids who need that kind of attention for 5-10 years TOPS. Especially when, in addition to being able to get jobs, they are specifically targeted by hiring programs and educational opportunities, which goes double for fields they don’t have a majority in. The point is to “maintain her lifestyle” right? Well, her lifestyle was to do nothing but raise the kids, who will still be there in the event of a divorce. There’s no reason to maintain someone’s wealth when they aren’t a part of your family anymore.
I see this argument all the time: “well it’s not like a 40 year old with no education or work experience is going to have a great resumé”. That’s cool, it sounds like she chose not to pursue education or a job. Take online classes while the kids are at school, go to night school when the husband comes back from work, pick up a trade, just do something. Her lifestyle of doing nothing and raising children isn’t going anywhere, why in the fuck should anyone “maintain” her finances after cutting ties. Man or woman, it’s not smart to fully depend on someone else but if you do, you shouldn’t be compensated by the person you’ve basically just legally proclaimed “I DONT FUCK WITH YOU” to.

I prefer it to be the first one but part of me feels like it’s the second one.
The body reacts very strongly to stress.
I actually am joyful that Robin Williams was still lucid and intelligent enough to take his own life. The other option is actually way darker. From everything I read, if he tried to fight it or go with it and let it consume him, he would have suffered a slow and painful death. Dissolved into a mere shadow of his self.
Suicide is shit but in this instance it really was best and only right choice.

It's tragic that men are so loving, and women are not. It means that this shit will happen again and again.

I am reminded of my brother, who committed suicide. He was a real pussy chaser, he had children with four different women while he was still mid twenties. Multiple states were garnishing his checks to the point that if he should take home about $1,500... he would have about $180 to himself. Nobody can live on that, it doesn't even pay for food. He literally got less than $200 per month.
My dad railed on him to fight the states and get that shit corrected, but he just didn't have the will to fight any of it.
He knew that he would be dependent on his family for all of his life. The last time that I spoke with him, I said that after our dad dies, he'll always have a home in the house. Zero inheritance was going to him because it would be seized by the state. I don't know if that affected his decision. I think it was the child support that killed him.
My brother wasn't rich. He worked as a cook at a truck stop. Fucking hell, even someone rich like Robin Williams can get totally fucked by the state.

Amazing how the family court system rewards women with such excess. Dude was working to make millions a year just to pay it all out to women who never did a thing to help he get it.
These family court systems need a ton of fixing. Perhaps a good step is making sure women don't get windfall profits from divorce or having children.

In March I wrote a post about the estate litigation involving Robin Williams’ children with his 3rd wife, Susan Schneider Williams. The lawsuit was initially filed by Susan just a few months after Williams committed suicide in August of 2014 in his Tiburon, CA home. According to the NY Times, Susan claimed she was not left enough money to manage their Tiburon home, which had been left to her in a trust set up by Robin, along with the contents of the home. She also claimed that several valuable items had been removed from the house by Williams’ children, Zak, Zelda, and Cody. The three adult children (all in their 20's) had a separate trust, which contained the majority of Williams' financial and real property assets. So where did Williams go wrong in his Estate Planning?
It appears Robin had carefully planned for his death, creating two separate trusts (one for Susan & one for his children), each with meticulous details regarding the trusts’ administration. Perhaps, given the nature of the family dynamic - a stepmother and three children who lost a father in such a tragic and shocking manner - estate litigation may have been inevitable. As an attorney who frequently litigates Trust and Estate matters in the SF East Bay, I have seen how emotions surrounding the death of a loved one can lead to miscommunication and fighting between family members. And when there is a second, third, or 4th spouse involved, managing the administration of a trust or estate can be that much more difficult - and emotional. Or, the issue may have been the ambiguity surrounding Williams' personal property.
