You have to set the ground rules. Like a child you have to tell them what the rules are. The girl that I see right now tried to be just a little bit dramatic in the beginning...

I looked at her and I said "you're not allowed to do that. If you want to, then go find somebody else. It's against the rules so don't do it again."

That usually shuts them down. It also means that she's testing you to see if she can manipulate you.

Years ago I was dating this chick and a year after we started dating she digressed for a few moments and said

That response prevented a lot of bullshit arguments because she knew I wouldn't allow her to dwell, be negative or dramatic.

I didn't even try to justify Myself by reminding her that she lives an hour away from me and me coming over would mean that I would only get 3 hours of sleep that night. So a two hour drive one hour each way plus spending two or three hours at her house was simply undoable sometimes.

I refused to even have the conversation. I refused to spend even one moment on that dramatic bullshit.

Anyway, here's some excellent perspective: as Tom Leykis says, "This right now is the best it's going to get." Her behavior right now is the best you can expect, and will likely get worse if you stay long-term.
