There's a guy I see at the library often. He doesn't look homeless, but he hangs out there all day with a backpack. I was sitting next to him today, and a woman walked up with a child and said "you can say Merry Christmas to her". The guy was clearly started and softly said "Oh... hi! Good to see you...". It was his ex/wife and his daughter. He turned to the young girl, wished her a Merry Christmas and asked her how her holiday was. Before she could answer, the woman cut in and exclaimed loudly "I can't stay. I haven't done any shopping yet...Ugh! And I need to use the bathroom!" and turned around and started walking away. The guy quickly gathered his things as his daughter waited for him... the mom was already gone, walking briskly towards the restrooms. The first thing his daughter asks him is "why did you get fired?" and he sweetly said "shhh" as they walked away. It was truly heartbreaking.
