I was doing interviews last month and two female applicants said over and over in their interviews that they were single moms. Like it was supposed to impact my selection. I went with the most qualified and they didn’t get the job.

Women who go out of their way to announce that they're single moms are the /r/niceguys of womanhood.

Don't get me wrong; it's hard to be a single parent of either gender. Sometimes it happens through the best of intentions and bad luck, more often it happens because younger women are reckless and irresponsible, but the outcome is the same: enormous responsibility.

Then you have a situation where a girl who couldn't be responsible enough to use protection is somehow in charge of a human being's wellbeing on her own. Sometimes they rally and get responsible real fast, but unfortunately, having responsibility and being responsible are two completely separate things.

Unfortunately, the women who wear "I'm a single mom" are usually the type who have responsibility, but wholly irresponsible. They're not even grown up yet, they're still just parading around single parenthood like it's a card to get free stuff or sympathy or imaginary Internet points.

They're preemptively putting on a layer of Victim Armor so you can't ever call them out on obvious lies or inconsistencies. It works for the majority of listeners to shut down everyone's critical thinking skills and get them to automatically circle the wagons to defend them.

There's women who feel that their children's status as a vulnerable, non-autonomous minor should extend to themselves. Both child and mom are one and the same, and whatever you'd normally do for the child, you need to do for her.

They don't see themselves as the adult provider of the child, but as a child-by-association themselves.

This is why they constantly bring up "single mom". They want to let you know that all the normal expectations you have toward adults don't apply to her.

I saw that article today and screenshotted it. Was gonna post it here. Look, I think student loans are a great tool, the colleges are just fucking over everyone. But to act like you should be able to keep a refund when you are obviously defaulting/defaulted on them because single mom is bullshit. I have loans lady. Uncle Sam ain't blowing me, either.
