Hello fellows,

Currently I'm 21 years old live with my parents. I want to ask something simple. After 1 year I get an assosiate degree of programming. My question is, is it worth going to university and have a student loan debt or go to work as a programmer.

Rewards: If I go for the university I have a university degree in my pocket but I also have more than 10k debt. So negative 10.000 euros

If I go for working as a programmer, I can enhance my programming skills and do what works for the job and earn a living. I can also become a senior developer within 3 years and could increase my earning potential.

The question one should ask is if it's worth getting that degree.

What I think: I think that just going to work and leave my house is the best option for the peace of my mind.

What my father thinks:

You should get that university degree. Sitting in his shoes he came from another country to this country(netherlands) and has to work a job that earns just enough to sustain a family. I think him telling me to get a degree is projecting because he doesn't have a degree. In his eyes a degree = higher earning potential and a good life. But since at this time and age school is getting shitier and shitier I'm not sure. He says 4 years are quick. Just sit 4 years in a prison and you'll be free with a good job. Let's make it 6 with that debt.

Rant:

Every day is a living hell with headache and a mother who nags and screams every single day. (screams to enforce that my siblings wake up go to sleep etc) A lot of mgtow's can relate to this. My family members are always loud when I want to be left alone. I'm happier alone but it doesn't mean that I wish my family members died. Sometimes I dream of just getting out of here to freedom.

tl;dr university degree with 10k in debt or 3 years work experience in programming while having the potential to become senior and increasing my earning.

Edit: Thank you all brothers.
