In my personal experience, this phenomenon is far more insidious. Gossip is currency for women. And Reputation destruction is power.

Women consistently will air dirt about their peers (male and female) if they perceive they will receive some social benefit OR if they can socially destroy the subject of the dirt. When they can't air true dirt, they will make it up. They do this because it makes them feel powerful and in control.

I’ve watched a few reality love shows on some of the streaming services. I keep getting older and it’s nice to see things aren’t changing.

It amazes me how trusting men are of women. A girl can be in conflict with their “friend”, they will even say horrible things like how they hate them. Even through the tear down of the “friends” character they are still gonna tell them anything you said in confidence.

From my experience it's always that when you meet a girl, she loves the way you are. Until her group of friends show up and she starts telling you to stop being yourself.

And it's never ever overt. She just takes her friend's side in saying what you're doing/saying/thinking is inappropriate.
