To build your credit score there needs to be a 'footprint'. One way of creating that is to have a credit card and pay it on time consistently. You'll also make a percent or two rebate back from the card (and maybe even a credit of several hundred dollars by running a certain minimum spend on the card in the first one to three months as well). Just pay it in full every month so that you never pay the exorbitant interest rates charged on any remaining balance. If you ever buy a house, same thing will apply - make the payments on time consistently for a better credit score. However, if you're not looking to take out any loans, then your credit score makes no difference in most cases.

the less you use it, it will drop. i stopped using credit for like 5 years, and my score went down a good bit. always paid on time and never defaulted. it is good to maintain a credit score for if you ever want to buy a new car etc, you may get a better interest rate. having collateral like you do helps also, but not sure what it does for interest rates. top tier credit seems like it is people who are always in debt, a revolving debt (to me, this is not really a good thing, depending on how stable your job is and how many dependents you may have, but lenders love to see on time minimum payments, interest makes them rich)

Another young guy here, but I have credit from getting a car loan. Another way to build credit I've heard of is to get a credit card that gets points or cash back for groceries and gas. Since you're already buying these things anyways, use the credit card to buy them, then pay it off immediately. It'll be a good start for credit history and will build your credit score.

What do you do when you get a credit card? Apply for a home loan? How do they calculate your interest rates? What happens if you default on a loan? How do future lenders know? There must be some type of credit system where you're from.
