I cut my cable subscription years ago. I do watch some stuff on netflix, and pirate the occasional HBO show.

The main thing is to cut out all the advertising from your life. I'm so much more content now that I'm not being bombarded with ads telling me to buy shit I don't need. A lot of advertising is aimed at a women anyways.

I "cut the cord" 12 years ago because I decided that it was fucking retarded to watch things according to when other people decided I should be watching them. With downloads and streams going up an hour after broadcast, it really freed me up to do whatever I want without having to put my life on pause just to watch some show or worry about setting the DVR to record it for me.

I use an app called Kodi. You can stream anything you want to see for free. You can get a mini box and remote with it installed from Amazon too. Or you could just cast it to the tv from a phone like I do.

TV is toxic, for sure. The ads are the worst.

In a marketing class I took, we had a case study. There was a riot, and all the things that were looted were the items that had been most heavily advertised. After the riots, when people had to pay for things, the patterns totally changed.

I love YouTube. Barbarossa, Colttaine, Thinking-Ape, Turd Flinging Monkey, etc. Food for the mind and the soul.

You hit the nail on the head. Marketing is all about making you unhappy about what you have. It's all about making what you have seem inadequate, that their is something missing and only their product will be what restores order to yourself and your home. Don't be a stupid bitch, keep your possessions to a minimum. In fact, instead of mindlessly consuming entertainment why not trying creating your own? Watching something is a passive activity, creating and developing something is an active activity and will better use your mind.

I use my TV as a video game monitor and to watch movies.

Haven't watched live TV at home in over 12 years.

Sometimes some trash TV is on at someone elses house and this just reminds that I made the right decision.

Don't you guys just record stuff and skip the adverts? for me here in the UK my TV works like a streaming service, box sets and everything, you just have to fast forward through some ads. I have seen US TV (when I was there) and your AD's do suck, but you guys must have some way to skip them like we do right? or not?

I don't know about US, but here TV pretty much killed itself. It's pure rubbish, even more if you compare it to whatever else you could be doing with your time.

Once I switched from dialup to broadband a decade ago, my TV watching dropped off dramatically.
