Probably a lot of truth there. We are all being manipulated to an extent but media and such heavily target the left. Only thing I've changed my tune on slightly is wealth distribution.. I generally agree keeping business taxes low draws business... However it's getting hard to dispute the huge gap... It's come to attention that in history there has never been a greater disparity between the wealthy elite and the common man. There's a case to be made that maybe they should be paying their fair share of taxes or possibly some of the loop holes should be erased.
[–]Something_Chronical3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The source is this is the technological improvements. Start there and then build the logical result.

The labor efficiency is actually tracked by BLS. Common man has 0 chance of keeping up with typical efficient business backed by capital. As Marx wrote, capital owners get all gainz from labor. Time to review the tax system or looting will continue.
[–]Something_Chronical9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There needs to be a paradigm shift for sure, but nothing that moves towards anything Marxist. Maybe more towards respecting the individual. Fur example, as Andrew Yang puts it, Facebook is a 650B dollar company...what's it's source of value offering to generate revenue? The users... It's an ecosystem of users creating unique content. Therefore, users should have a piece of that pie or have an option to not have any of their information used for any purpose.

The looting isn’t done by taxpayers!
They are busy working and paying taxes...
Those looting are living on taxpayers money!

[–]prbonfanti0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Redistribution will always be same from working men to single mothers and chadspawn, you know that. When you say "tax the rich" , will be two possibilities: They change country and take the jobs away, maybe to china, or Colombia, who knows. And the gov will increase taxes to take the lost resources, from you. Second way, the business stay, with more taxes, they charge more for the products, and the value of your money is destroyed, or they close the doors and you will pay to China, if you still have a job. How worked in Maoist China, or for the Soviets, or Venezuela? Maybe on all places they asked the gov to make things more fair... but govs only want more power, they just need a excuse, terrorism, corona, social justice, climate change...
[–]CertainCrow11 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Eh i still believe in keeping taxes on business themselves low . Just get rid of some of the loopholes for the individuals at the upper end. I get it I used to think exactly the same.. but honestly when the gap is bigger than ever in recorded history you can't keep trending the same way. Communism is so far removed from where we are it's eve. A remote possibility. A bit of a correction is needed at some point. Happened once alreayd historically.. can't recall the years. (Ok it was around 1980 when it was going this way then corrected) It's not all to the one extreme or the other . Something has to give or everyone is screwed and people will take to the streets if we keep going the same way.
Edit: so at least in Canada the top 1% have 1/4 of the countries wealth and the bottom 40% have 1% of it. That's insane and honestly it even taxing just an extra 1% would make a difference. Not convinced such a drop in the bucket would cause someone to leave. It's honestly mind blowing bow much people hoard. Nobody will ever need anywhere close to that and it's just pride
[–]prbonfanti0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Doesn't matter, if you want the gov to fix everything you are giving him more power to fuck your life. If people cared more about their own level of 'buying power' , not gap, and less in how much bezos is spending with whores, they would want less gov , less taxes, less laws, not more. I don't someone have to 'give' anything, this is a thief mindset, communist in embryo. The reserve is the desire to keep own money, own properties, not be drained to sustain parasites, from shirtless or black tie type. I heard canada is heavy on taxes, so why should be surprised about a lot of people in the bad? How you can keep your head about the waterlevel when Trudeau needs to commit $650 million to help feminist movements?
[–]CertainCrow10 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah Canada definitely has its share of other issues. You could argue the taxes they do bring in is not sure efficiently. I'd love to have less taxes for everyone, but the reality is taxes are a certainty, the question is who's paying them? Sadly it seems mostly the ones caught in the middle. Can't expect people at bottom to pay too much, guys at top could easily contribute a little and it would be a drop in the bucket . But as things gets more expensive we just keep expecting the guys just above the poverty line to shoulder it. It's only been very recent ice sorta realized the people pushing this rhetoric may have a point. We know equal share doesn't work, but a slight shift may be in order. Used to be people in my industry made say 4-5 times what minimum wage people made. Now it's like 2-3 since minimum wage went up just making it all more expensive. They raised it when everyone else was reelingw. That was a provincial thing.
Anyways yeah definitely the voter base has screwed themselves. When Trudeau for in a second time I said well unfortunately as a country we kinda deserve what's coming since our voters are that stupid. Unfortunately everyone else has to suffer along with the ones that voted him back in. People here kinda crazy. They're complaining that we aren't giving teachers and nurses raises when the rest of the community can't even stay employed. So if people had their way taxes would be raised even more. Of course with rural doctors some of them actually leaving too now. Food for thought though. The supposedly better placed to live all have fairly high taxes... There is some balance to be struck where basic services used by everyone is more efficient in a pooled manner. As mentioned we need to stop filtering all the money from single dads to single moms..and other such practices that would go a long ways.
[–]prbonfanti0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"fairly high taxes" , you could say "fairy tales" and spend less characters.

The gap doesn't matter. You have to look at whether or not the ones on the bottom have more or the ability to make more than in the past. Has their overall lot improved over time? If we are only using the gap as the measure, the ones on the top could be trillionaires while the ones on the bottom are millionaires and there would still be complaining about the wealth gap.
[–]whycantwebefriends96 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Except that's not the way it is now. The people at the bottom can barely afford the basics of life. If the people on the bottom are millionaires, you can be sure as shit, a bottle of milk isn't going to be $2 anymore.
[–]CertainCrow15 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Was just about to follow up with this... In such a scenario a million bucks iant worth that much if the wealthier ones are in the trillions.
[–]whycantwebefriends92 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Bingo. Germany ReichMarks anyone? Trillion Mark loaves of bread. Sure, the bottom had billions of marks, but that wouldn't buy them enough bread for a day.

95% of people that make less than $30,000 own cellphones, 71% being smart phones. https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/fact-sheet/mobile/

These are just two examples of how capitalism has improved the life of the ordinary lot and how the poor are living better than they did 100 years ago, 50 years ago, or even 20 years ago.
[–]whycantwebefriends90 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That has literally nothing to do with what I said, nor does it prove anything about "if everyone were millionaires" 100 years ago both of those things didn't exist, and neither did the mobile phone 20 years ago.
A mobile phone is basically an essential in todays world, you would struggle to get by without one. You would miss out on a lot of opportunities without them.
And a microwave today is quintessentially used to heat left overs, or frozen meals. Again not sure what your point is.
Housing is less affordable than it was 100, 50 or 20 years ago. 50 years ago housing was about 2-5x the average salary. Today it's at least 6x, especially where I live.
Wages have not grown anywhere near the rate at which the cost of living has grown.
[–]nebraskaguy4020 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
people at the bottom can barely afford the basics of life.
When people complain about the wealth gap, the end result to try and fix the problem is usually the suggestion of socialism and using the government to confiscate peoples wealth so I guess I was heading that argument off at the pass. I was pointing out that people can easily afford a lot more basics today with improvements in technology & capitalism than they could in the past.
As for housing prices, you can thank the government and the Fed for that. Interest rates in the 80s averaged or were above 10%. That meant the monthly payment on a $100,000, 30 year mortgage @ 10% was $878. At today's interest rates, that same 30 year mortgage at 3% is $422. Since the Fed has jack hammered interest rates into the ground to prop up the house of cards economy, a side effect as been a balloon in housing prices. Since people can more easily afford a larger loan payment with lower rates, home sellers are able keep asking more. Imagine what would happen to home prices if we went back to 10% interest rates.

Except you wouldn't have the same mortgage for the same house, with the increase in the house prices and the almost stagnation of salaries, the average cost:average salary has skyrocketed.
That's the point, even with the 18% interest rates repayments were less then than they are today, because mortgage amounts are multiple times bigger. The house 100k would buy you in the 80s, would cost you multiple times more today.
Here in Australia it's incredibly scuffed, we had 15-20% interest rates at one point, and mortgages were still more affordable, because the same house has tripled or greater in value in that time.

Low paid workers in the US haven't had real wage increases (real wage = wage increases - inflation) since the 1970s. That is not a typo. No real increase since the 1970s! That is amazing. Meanwhile the corporate kleptocracy continues to import a million low paid immigrants each year to keep it that way. Workers have been comprehensively betrayed by both parties.
[–]nebraskaguy4020 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't really matter if low paying jobs haven't increased in pay, low paid jobs aren't life long careers. Its not the responsibility of the employer to make sure they pay you a livable wage. It is the responsibility of the employer to pay you a wage based on your skill set and what you bring to the table. It is your responsibility to improve your skill set if you want to command a higher wage. If you're working at McDonalds washing dishes for a decade and haven't picked up any new skills on the way, that is on you. With the invention of the internet, there is no excuse not to be able to educate yourself more and improve your skill set in order to command a higher wage.
6 years ago I knew absolutely nothing about DIY. Today, I have done almost every major home renovation you could name including plumbing, drywall, framing, electrical, etc. All because I was willing to learn and I learned how to search Youtube. I'm currently doing prepping my backyard to pour a concrete slab for a shed build. First time working with concrete, we will see how it goes! Sure, there are lots of mistakes made on the way but that is how you learn. Because of everything I have earned, I guarantee you I could go out and get a job on a framing crew that would pay $16-$20 an hour even though I've never been employed in that field before.
On top of all that, if you don't like the way the system works, go ahead and go out and start your own business and work for yourself. Then you get to decide how much you get paid and no one else has a say in it. (Other than the government taking their cut of course).
[–]CertainCrow10 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Problem is the world and the financial system doesn't work that way. You can print as much money as you want but there are a finite amount of resources that can be traded for said currency. If someone is extremely wealthy (or a country) then that generally means someone else has to suffer in the grand scheme of things. Reality is the poorest of the poor is still in other parts of the world. You can't have everyone be wealthy.
In North America our poor still better off but getting squeezed more now that many of their jobs are being outsourced to other countries. Actually in Canada our upper class has increased with everyone else and bottom has increased the most. However too 2 have as much wealth as bottom 30% combined in Canada still. All this has done is that for the middle class we are being squeezed more than ever. It's insane how much inflation we've had over last several years combined with weaker dollar. In Alberta biggest industry everyone wages actually 30-40% LESS in last few years then it was say 2011-2015. Cost of everything has gone up. Need almost 6 figures to support a family of 4 where I live on a single income. Now that I'm getting divorced going to be extremely tight and everyone I know losing their jobs right now (I'm about to)
[–]nebraskaguy4021 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
And you know why jobs are being outsourced? Because those other countries don't have minimum wage laws.
The minimum wage law hurts low skill workers the most, it takes away their bargaining power. If I need to fill a job for my business and the government tells me I have to pay them $10 an hour, I'm going to hire someone that is worth $10 an hour. I'm not going to hire someone that is only worth $5 based on their skills. So, the guy with the skills that can only command $5 can't undercut the $10 an hour worker and the $5 guy is out of a job due to minimum wage laws.
[–]CertainCrow10 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You're mostly right... But I mean that's also a race to the bottom scenario. Like I get that my job can be done what cheaper overseas, but at the same time I can't possibly lower my rate nearly that low. It's so much cheaper to live over there. Partially due to what you're saying, but then the standard those bottom people are living with is pretty bad. Best case scenario that will take a long time is that those 'high value areas' gradually have their own rates creep up.. but generally just shifts to other areas. We stopped using our Shanghai office because their rates climbed, but shifted to parts of India
I do agree that when the discussion is oh.. minimum wage is something people should be able to live on... Then you've gone too far though. They hiked our up a few dollars all at once recently.. the rest of us middle class tyoes didn't see any increase in the few years since and everything just got more expensive.

I disagree. I think the left is for those who can't compete (dumb, ugly, uneducated, incompetent, lacking in self control and personal responsibility, entitled, immature etc) and who are bitter about it.
That is why they despise masculinity, white people, the wealthy, and anyone who typically has accrued some form of status or power. They don't want to accept personal responsibility for their failings and so blame the 'priviledge' of others as a crutch/ scapegoat.
It's only recently that they've discovered that the internet and social media are powerful tools that can exponentially amplify 'outrage' and shame tactics in order to weaponize them as a means of actuating real harm against those who they hate (aka those who out compete them), and ultimately shift power over to themselves.
This is why all 'social justice' movements never stop at true equality, and instead order white people to 'step aside' and relinquish there role or title to a person from a 'marginalized group', or why women demand that men 'move over' to make room for them at the top of every prestigious institution.
The rent seeking ultra elite only encourage those natural tendencies in order to pit us against each other and keep our focus away from the real evil.. themselves.
[–]realChebz6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I tend to agree with you more. There is clearly a difference in the way of thinking between those on the left and those on the right. Elites have nothing to do with it.
The left is full of spiteful mutants. People lacking in mental and/or physical faculties and blaming the rest of the world for it. It is also full of young people without purpose who think that tearing down statues is somehow makes world a better place. Both are easily manipulated by elites, sure. But they were born morons in a first place.
I personally don't like this fence-sitting "no left or right", "we all bleed red", "let's hold hands and sing kumbaya". If a group of people consistently and repeatedly displays hate towards me, I will side with the tribe that opposes that group.

Men prefer right, simps and women prefer left.
For women, it's a bit more gray. Single women are turbo-liberal because they want government to take money from men and give it to themselves. Married women are more likely to lean right because they don't want their husband's money going to other women.

I have also seen this to be true, yes. Married women suddenly flip, what a miracle...not. And a lot of the idiot millennial or younger generation is totally worthless, because they have already given up and those are the ones on the left. The house of left represents “freedom and progress”
The house of right represents “peace and stability”
Democratic policies focus on progress at the expense of stability.
Republicans policies focus on peace at the expense of freedom.
Hook up culture is an example of the left, freedom to do whatever you want with your own body, at the expense of less security.
Arranged marriages would be the security and stability that comes with everyone being paired up, at the expense of the freedom to choose your partner.

I agree with your point, capitalism is born from greed and ambition, but marxism is from envy, and envy can only destroy, what was gone, family, culture, relationships, and now history is the next, as pointed before:
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

IQ points have always been bid up in the labor market. In the 80s, the IT and technology market exploded and masses of bright people were able to get training and enter employment were well paid, as their skills were rare. The commodification of skills inevitably lower wage levels in IT and technology in general. But the virtuous cycle will recalibrate and opportunities will arise, again, for bright people. The political chaos we are now experiencing shoves a wrench in the process. Envy is the primary emotional source of collectivism (socialism/communism) and is endemic to the human condition. I look at paying 50% of my income in tax as a bribe to keep the brutal creatures from harming me.

This is the most important fact that people are still totally ignoring. There is a small group of people responsible for pretty much all the degeneracy and destruction, and their influence spans across the entire globe.
There IS no escaping them. There is only one way to deal with them and regain control of our society. Otherwise, things will continue to get worse...much, much worse.
