Thats what they tell us, but its simply not true. When i was younger, i knew a ton of guys who worked at ski mountains in the winters and spent 9 months a year living as beach bums out of the back of their vans. I know a guy now, in his 40's who works 6 months a year running a pool service company and does nothing for the other 6 months, living minimally.

The reason you think you need a ton of money is because you are trying to live up to other peoples expectations. They expect you to buy a car you cant afford, live in a house you cant afford and spend like a drunk trying to get the newest of everything to keep up with the Jones.

Going your own way is casting off that societial pressure to live as society demands. You really don't need much if you arent trying to impress others and just live for yourself.

Starting your own business and being an entrepreneur is where it’s at! I’d rather work all day and take risk than be at a safe 9-5 making Joe Schmo at the top of the hierarchy of hypergamy richer and better off. Even the last company I worked for in technology sales with a very good commission and upward mobility, it’s still making the CEO and board of directors richer and the top level management are getting richer and have to get richer for you to move upward, and you can’t move up unless all of them get richer.

I’m not against the people who work a nine to five obviously, but if you have dreams or an idea that’s beyond a corporation or wages, I say go for it. I’ve even seen some people completely opt out of society altogether and build a homestead or grow their own crops and do their own gardening and learned the crafts and skills to do it.
