Problem is, this loan forgiveness isn't a silver bullet like everyone seems to think it is: my guess is loan forgiveness will be an opportunity for a lot of young adults to make more irresponsible and poor financial choices. Their bad choices doesn't begin or end with getting a pointless degree in 18th Century Interpretive Feminist Dance Theory. Anything given isn't appreciated.

Student loan services purposely did a lot of lobbying to create a larger need and larger ability to give out loans in order to put chains on people/charge them up the wazoo. The thought of getting back at these evil bastards is a highlight. If you and me work on a plantation buddy remember I'm not your enemy they are.

I'm not saying the government should forgive student debt, but I do have some sympathy for indebted students. They thought they were doing the right thing by going to college, as told to them by everyone around them, and got sold a bill of goods.

Mark my words - some people have gotten very rich from the whole expansion of college participation and fee level increases. And have shackled an generation in the process. Follow the money, as they say.

Okay, this is another example of government causing major issues because a bunch of sjws decided to be a bunch of busy bodies, and the whole entire thing is fucked up to the core.. Remember kids, communism doesn't work.

Basically the issue goes like this, bunch of busy bodies notice that alot of people simply can't afford to go to higher education, and end up lobbing the government to extend a line of credit to people with no jobs or any credit history. The loan companies to which the government start talking basically go 'what?! No fuck off!, those people are far to high of a risk, we'll go bankrupt!'. So the government says okay we'll make it law so they cant default on the loans, and the loan companies break out the champagne and start flicking through yacht catalogs happy in the knowledge that they now have the ability to basically print free money. And at first everyone was happy! People could afford to go to higher education, the loan companies were snorting copious amounts of coke, and the government was patting itself on the back for a job well done!

Unfortunately, market forces are a real thing and the piper always needs to be paid! Well now we have a huge influx into a market with 'limited' seats... Guess what happens when you have huge demand for a limited product?! Well if any of you have attempted to get a next gen console recently or a 3080, you'll find you're pretty much up shit Creek unless you happen to have a big pile of money just sitting round doing nothing.. And this is what happened in America, courses that used to cost a few thousand, are now suddenly costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in a free market, this would of normalised until the ratio of demand and supply met a balance. But unfortunately, the loan companies, at this point so high from snorting coke off underage Chinese hookers on their private yachts in international waters, are just rubber stamping anything put in front of them. So loans, in some cases, that are close to a quarter of a million dollars, are being approved to children, for education in industries that will never give them wages that will allow them to pay off the debt. And its a debt they can never get rid of, unless they pay it off!

There are a mountain load of things that could of been done to aviod this, but hindsight is always 20/20. And there is more than enough blame to go around here.

But as to fix the issue, debt forgiveness doesn't fix the issue. Removing the law that prevents people from defaulting is the first thing that needs to be removed, this will stop children from getting access to ridiculously hugh amounts of money on credit. From there the market will start to sort itself out, but no doubt would cause the busy bodies to come back.. Then again they never really go away.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it here; American attitude toward college is shitty. People see it is a vacation, people go pick whatever wildcard major and hope they get a job, some people stay in for longer when it won't benefit their career, everyone shits on blue collars for being "uneducated".

I think the only thing that needs to change, is introducing initiatives to get high schoolers acquainted with community college systems (classes @ uni were 3 grand each, classes @ CC? $875) or job training, paid internships, trade schools, there are so many better options for teens after high school than overvalued universities. I don't think the government owes people who knowingly made poor choices anything, and we shouldn't get comfortable with them bailing us out. Also agree with that other comment here, it will likely enable more poor decision-making.

I took a year at uni before realizing how absurd it was to go to such an expensive school, so I opted for a 2 year program at CC. Debt is gonna be much lower (seriously, at Uni I would've been their bitch until all 130k + interest is paid), they already set me up with a good place to work and it's not even over yet, it's underrated AF.

If it was a program where only in-demand degrees were subsidized by the government, I would support that. Become a doctor, primary school teacher, structural engineer? Sure, I'll pay taxes for that. Become a women's study major, an art major, literature major? Those are luxuries, pay for it yourself.
