If you defend yourself, then you run the risk of putting a mark on her and triggering you to get arrested, even if you did nothing wrong. You don't even need to leave a scratch. She can attack you, get mad you stopped her, and then get you arrested.

This speaks to me personally...

When I was younger and foolish (way back in the early 90's) I (Over 6ft tall and 300lbs) let my girlfriend (5'10 and about 150lbs) at the time move in with me. Everything was supposed to be chipper and roses right? No within a few days of moving in she became controlling and would verbally abuse me at every moment she had, I was young and embarrassed so I just "let it go", "it will get better right?".... it didn't... one day I was working in my garage and she came in a began screaming at me over... honestly God knows what.... I just kept working on the car ignoring her.... at that point she picked up a hammer and threw it at me... I deflected it from hitting me in the head but at the cost of it breaking my wrist...

Cops were called, and while they did arrest her they literally made snide comments about how I was "beaten up by a widdle girl"... she was charged with domestic violence and held 24 hours in the county jail... they plead her down to some BS charge that won't "ruin her life". Basically if a man had done this he'd be in prison.. she got nothing but a small fine and 24 hours in jail.
