I think religion was essentially established for the purpose of controlling hypergamy. By creating an Eternal Father figure (or a series of deities) whose rules always center around the propriety of family, men are given incentive (in the form of mates) to stay within a group/tribe/nation and add to it collective well-being. Women are simultaneously given the security of the group they need for survival. Just my two cents.

That said, I can respect a deeply religious ascetic, provided his beliefs are centered on self-discipline and growth, and/or the benefit of society. Obviously, Abrahamic religions (and most religions for that matter) are absurd in their conceptions on creation, basic science, and edict of law. But their are a few tenets of several religions that even a fairly hardened skeptic like myself can agree with.

This resonated with me long before I knew of MGTOW, and has only grown in importance since. It speaks to the corruption of the mind for possessions. Material things and the temporary pleasures they bring cannot replace internal happiness. You can have money, women, title, etc. and still be miserable. Many men chasing the white picket fence fantasy learn this too late.

The Apostle Paul sums it up pretty well in 1 Corinthians 7. Basically, if you want to get married, do so. If you don't, then don't.

Solomon had a few things to say in Proverbs about how it's better to be alone than to live with a nagging wife.

I'm a Christian, and my conscience is clear about going my own way.

Well I'm an atheist so it's all pretty dumb to me, but the real beef I have with religion is it seems designed to control people, particularity men. Most religions tell men that they must get married and have kids because it'll please (insert god here). Even right now I have family who guilt me using religion to get me to find somebody and start having kids. No dice.

MGTOW fits where it needs to fit and tells you to do your own thing because you want to. Monks and things of that nature use religion as an excuse to GTOW. Whatever the case, if it works for you, good. That's the point.

The topic of religion is one which can be discussed at length for days, so I'll simplify my thoughts of it as briefly as possible. There are some moral and ethical concepts which religion promotes that I entirely agree with, but the idea of a higher entity in which we must devote our entire faith towards and never question doesn't jive with me. I think you should question everything, even faith, or else you place yourself in a position of complacency or righteousness which can lead to some very serious consequences.

The real problem is that religion, in most cases, forces a mould on people that enforces a role that we have departed from. Now, since I support you in going your own way, provided you have thought through the consequences it's your life, live it as you want.

My personal opinion is that if you feel happy doing what your imaginary friend wants then be happy but just don't push his bronze age agenda on other people.

I believe religion was a very important part of building civilization. There were always intellectuals, but the majority of people were (and still are) simple sheep. How do you keep the mob and family in line? Give them something to believe in..

The early polytheist religions had a more relaxed attitude about sex. Young males and females could fool around. They even had divinely sanctioned prostitution. People could sate their sex drives in any number of ways. Marriage was seen as a way to seal contracts between upper class families.

The monotheist father-figure religions placed an emphasis on female chastity and the male duty to provide utility to earn access to that chastity. Marriage was seen as the only proper outlet for sexual drives.

The monotheist religions bear a striking resemblance to cancer. Polytheist religions allowed non-reproductive sex for pleasure (both hetero and homosexual), various forms of birth control, even infanticide (ethically dubious but an effective means of controlling population growth). In contrast monotheist religions taught the only acceptable form of sex was reproductive sex. No homosexuality, no birth control, no infanticide.

Why would monotheist religions teach these attitudes about sex? It's easier to indoctrinate children than convert adults. The monotheist religions teach their followers to outbreed the competition. A cancer cell is a cell which has lost it's shut off switch. It keeps dividing and growing until it out-competes the surrounding cells and takes resources from vital organs, leading to death. Monotheist religions attitudes towards sex are eerily similar. They encourage out of control population growth with no shutoff switch, heedless of the consequences. They seek to establish dominance in the market place of ideas by out breeding competition, rather than winning dominance through rational debate.

Some in religion may choose isolation but still among similar types of people in a group and for the religion. In the end if some of them truly "go their own way" it will be by luck because it's not by design.

Mind you if I was a monk using my time to read up on cultures, history and making beer I think I could find a lot of contentment in it provided I still had the time & facilities to exercise. If Shaolin monks can exercise enough to invent Kung Fu (Gung Fu) then why not other monks?

No fucking way. Religion is a means of control that seeks to control your life. Not to mention present-day Christianity is a cancer to young men. Sexual shaming of normal impulses, catering to women and their wants/needs without any options given to young men and then promising them a reformed slut when they hit 35 and telling them to thank their god for it. Be a fully actualized human being and make your own decisions. Only sheep need something to follow.
