I recently retired last summer. Been talking to another retired guy who is a little older than me...right BEFORE he retired..his wife filed for divorce and screwed him over. It came right out of the blue and caught him off guard.

I figure she must have timed it...to where his income and assets were at a maximum....and then she hit him with it. Before that she had quite working for 5 years and was a housewife and so pre-positioned herself for the divorce for maximum financial gain.

When I was married...I saw my then wife doing the same sort of thing...pre-positioning herself...I didn't wait...I pulled the eject lever before she was ready and was able to negotiate a good out of court settlement.

This guy was able to keep it out of court...but he didn't have the leverage that I did...and he got screwed over.

For a man...marriage is about love and access to regular sex...for women it's about "security" (their code word for: M-O-N-E-Y)....and in a divorce...that is when a man realizes that for the woman...it was always and only about money.
