Tons of simps think being an ass to friends means they are alpha.

And I don't know about you, but I think it has been getting really bad lately.
It seems to me that men were much better to each other in the 90s and early 2000s. Even when I was blue pilled, it seems old friends just became increasingly obssessed with being alpha and being on the top as time went on (including people of various ages).

I have a friend like this, I once asked him why he had to seek validation from women, he held a grudge because of that for so long but deep down I knew he was only angry because he knew it was true. You don't have to respect what a friend says all the time. Sometimes you just want to do your thing. But if that friend keeps insisting, telling him to shut up or mind your own business is like the least one could say. He didn't insult him or cut off all contact or anything else. There are much better ways to tell a friend to stop then what he did, even if he was "bugging" him.
If op is running on and on, then he needs to learn to respect his friend himself and his friend should just dump him from being a piece of shit.
And you are right, nobody has to do anything for anybody else. But that doesn't mean anything really and it is a shitty excuse to treat people you supposedly care about like trash.

Disrespect is unhelpful and just makes people angry, makes the other person push the subject further and ignore what you are trying to say.
If op's friend stated it more respectfully, op would probably even be more likely to drop the subject.
Something like "Ok. I will" and then proceed to ignore it would work much better at getting op to stop pestering him anyway (in place of shut up when he mentioned that he should think carefully).
If op is disrespectful, then he should also stop it (for the reasons I mentioned earlier) as his friend will be less likely to listen due to the disrespect.
To conclude, "nobody is entitled to anything" is a big reason that our society sucks so hard these days.

To be honest I'm not one that likes those types of things much if it's too common or exaggerated (like what you said I'd consider a bit too much), but men just like to shoot the shit from time to time. No worth getting too up in arms about it.
Also just saying, but I've been in some relationships where you'd think they'd jump through hoops for you and you were all buddy buddy with insulting one another and shooting the shit but then they just throw you under the bus for a woman.
