Why? If it is sound advice and checks out, who cares who delivers it? If Jesus Christ, Mother Theresa, or the ghost of Jack Dempsey told me to circle to my right against a hammer-handed southpaw, I could give a rat's ass about their character or what wonderful works they have done. It is horrendous advice that will quickly have me looking up at the lights while speaking Ewok.
Part of going our own way is discarding blanket thought in favor of purely independent thought. I'm not advocating adopting Mugabe and Pol Pot as moral authorities. But I am advocating taking all information regardless of source, chewing it up and ingesting the helpful while spitting out the unhelpful. On paper, my loving parents should NOT be taken with "a considerable grain of salt". But regarding relationships, my mother's advice is shit. Regarding other things, it is gold. Same with my father.
