Today living within your means, also means:

Paying income tax.
Paying school tax.
Paying real estate tax.
Paying social security tax (which won't be around for us anyway).
Paying medicare tax (again, won't be around for us anyway).

So yeah I probably lose 30-40% of my income to these bastards. That's long before utilities, car and food let alone luxuries. We've got to be monks today. No other choice.
