The whole face thing is so they have facial recognition in the governments database. Let's be honest, you have to be insanely retarded to use it. Who easier to sucker in than women. They have barely any grasp on the consequences of this. To them it is a $1000 social statement. Gotta stay in the loop for the bitches, don't want your girlfriends to think you are poor.

The whole "FaceID" is such a doomed thing... moreover, Apple ought to know this, because they tried (and abysmally failed at) something similar about 2 decades ago, around the "colored iMac" era they attempted to do a "voice statement" as a password system -- it "worked" but only sporadically, and only when your voice (tone, timbre, etc) was almost perfectly identical to what you'd originally recorded. The least little "hoarseness/sore throat" (or indeed even slight "excess of phlegm" in the morning) led to a failure to recognize the person.

And yet ironically -- ala the film "Sneakers" (i.e. "My Voice Is My Passport. Verify Me.") -- even the replay of the crappiest recording of you making the statement in a "normal" (non-hoard, unphlegmatic) voice was sufficient to "dupe" the system. I know, because I tried that (using a little pocket-dictaphone thing) and it worked.

-- Likewise, even though they CLAIM the system is a "3D" facial recognition, it doubtless is not in fact "3D" but rather a faux "3D" based off of colors/contours as a proxy for actual "depth" perception (what is sometimes called a "2-1/2D").

And what that means is that -- in addition to NOT "working" on women without makeup (probably a VALID note and not merely funny-satire) -- the system will (potentially, and I would say even probably) be fairly EASILY/READILY "duped/subverted" by a photograph of the person presented to the camera.

Meaning all you need to do to gain access to someone's new "secure" iPhoneX is an appropriate photo-print of them (possibly even just a grayscale image, as a contour-faux-depth algo will be far more problematic if it relies on color/tint, and so it most likely REALLY works on B/W or grayscale brightness/contrast).

Translation: Massive FAIL

Also, I hereby predict that the whole Face ID feature will -- much like that "voice ID" of the colored iMac era -- softly and suddenly vanish away...

People think this "new" facial recognition technology is something cool.

But to me its a sign of normalizing facial recognition. Allowing the government to have a data base of your ID. Step by step they're implementing new ways to spy and know every single thing about you.

Since the iphone is seen as "hip" by pop culture. You must own the new iphone to belong with the newest trends. What better way to introduce this new piece of technology than the sheep who hand out 1000 dollars for a fucking phone?

Once facial recognition is used for banking or to gain access for certain buildings. It will already be perceived as "normal".

Letting the government know exactly where you go every single day for the rest of your life.

Scary times lie ahead, gentlemen.

When it's pitch black in the room the face ID must probably light my face with a bright led for recognition to work. Which is not nice when it's the middle of the night. Fingerprint + passcode is better. Am I correct in assuming X won't have a FP reader because there's no room for it?
