I haven’t been in a relationship in 7 years. Over that period I had a few casual flings but have spent most of it monk. I’m 37. Throughout my teens and twenties I was always in a relationship. Most were longer term with the longest last 5 years. My last one had its share of volatility and, surprising to no one here I’m sure, it ended in infidelity. I always knew that her and I were incompatible long-term but I was still hurt when it ended. I’m fairly solitary person and I went back to school a few years ago in addition to working full-time so I haven’t had excessive downtime to dwell. But, I find this time of year really hard. Its cold here in Canada now and, like most people during the winter, I spend most of my time housebound. Then I start to ruminate. For over a month, the thing I have been most looking forward to was the release of the new Punisher series and that strikes me as really sad. I spent last night sprawled on the couch, in the dark, by myself. Sometimes, I really miss companionship. I was never a typical beta when dating. I did what I wanted, made women pay half the time, picked fights that I thought were worth it, and was never afraid to walk away. But, on nights like last night, I wonder how satisfied I’m going to be over the balance of my life without someone to enjoy it with. I know the standard MGTOW answer is going to be: get out and be social, pursue hobbies, get a dog, and you were always alone anyway (haha) but all of us who’ve been in real relationships knows that none of that is a comparable substitute.

Not really sure where I’m going with this. I guess I’m just curious if any of you ever feel the same?
