Reminds me if a Remembrance Day poster put up in all the halls in schools here in Canada. Put up some old lady who was a nurse with bright red lipstick but soldiers uniform with medals. Daughter thought it was some kind of solider who fought and died or something. I said no.. actually women didn't fight in the world wars. Asked why is she on the poster like a hero then? Said because that's how society is. They'd love kids to think she was and remember history different.. they'd also like to elevate nurses and that and try to say they sacrificed as much as the soliders in front lines sacrificing their lives and seeing fellow men dying next to them. Society likes to downplay sacrificed men made and put on a pedestal what women have done.

my good friend was having a problem with his ex telling his daughter to call the ex's new boyfriend/husband daddy. it made him pretty unhappy and they got a teachable moment from Disney of all places. don't remember what movie but it had to do with the youngster being removed from the father and having to call someone else father, and his daughter picked up on it and brought it up and they talked about it.

They actually changed that recently, the double standards when it comes to male disposability are slowly changing and it is becoming more fair, the reason why they used to put women first is because back then, there were traditional gender roles but now that our society is completely different and that the men of today aren't like the men of the previous generations, things have changed and men are much more free. If a man wanted to go his own way in the past, he would have a lot of trouble to do so, but now it is easier than ever before. The only places where it isn't is in countries like India and that is because the indians are still very traditional even though they have let feminism corrupt their country, so they are left with a country that promotes female supremacy while also promoting white knighting and male disposability. In the west however, things are different, there have been cases where a man's girlfriend was attacked by a mass shooter, and instead of sacrificing himself to save her, he ran away and she was killed and although there were still many people who were blaming him for her death, what he did wasn't against the law. In the past, he would have been judged very differently.

So, although our traditions haven't completely disappeared and male disposability still exists, it's nowhere near as bad as before. And on a ship, the people who are most likely to leave first will probably just be rich people who bribed someone to escape, or if that option isn't available, then they will send everyone at the same time. The only person who will be expected to wait the longest before leaving is the captain of the ship and that is because as the captain, he has the responsibility to guarantee the safety of his passengers and before he even took the job, he knew what he was getting into. And its the same with male disposability, nowadays men aren't taught to sacrifice themselves like they were in the past, our culture is moving towards more equality although it has never come close to that when it comes to family court, it still has achieved equality in terms of treating both genders equally in matters that are related to a crisis.

Also, even in the times of male disposability back in the early to mid 20th century, it wasn't just men that were treated unfairly, women were also forced to live a life that they didn't want to live. Men were forced to get married and have kids but women were too. Men were forced to sacrifice themselves for their family but women were forced to obey the husband and tolerate any abuse that they would suffer, and although a man who killed his wife would either get the death penalty or a life sentence, he was still allowed to beat his wife and his children without getting arrested. If the woman wanted to run away, she couldn't. If a man or a woman didn't want to get married, they weren't forced by the law but they were forced by their family and if they didn't then they ended up living miserable lives. Men were sacrificed in the army but women were sacrificed in child birth, if a doctor had the choice between saving the woman or the child, he was forced to save the child and let the mother die, so women were disposable too. But women weren't sent in the army because they wouldn't be able to handle war physically or emotionally.

It is not that the society didn't care about men, but to function they had to give specific roles to each gender so that the society could survive, protect itself and evolve. Nowadays, especially thanks to the discovery of the atomic bomb, we have achieved peace with most countries because nobody wants their country to be ruined by an atomic bomb, so the main powers of the world use the bombs as a threat to keep the peace, and because of that, there haven't been any important wars since the Cold War. And if someone decided to launch an atom bomb, they wouldn't have to even use the draft to make an army, the most powerful countries would destroy each other and the entire planet with the atomic bombs alone. The ones that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were very small compared to the ones that exist today, a few would be enough to wipe out the entire human race. I think that the peace that followed between first world countries after the Cold War may be the reason why the United States and most first world countries have become so progressive. Because if there hadn't been World War 2, there would still be at least as many wars as there used to be before World War 1, and if the atomic bomb had never been discovered, then there would be even more wars, and if there were a lot of wars, then, societies would be forced to keep the nuclear family and stay conservative because that is what the world would need. But in times of peace, countries can afford to provide their people with more freedom since they don't need the same structure since the world is more peaceful than it has ever been before. The only countries that remain in conflict are those who are still very primitive and barbaric and the few terrorist attacks that they have done against first world countries are very insignificant compared to what we would have if all the first world countries were at war with each other.
The reason why countries stopped trying to conquer each other isn't because the world has become more modern but because the atomic bomb scares everyone and discourages people to conquer and that is why organisations like the United Nations exist.
