My Pa was 50 when I was born in 74. So my childhood was spent working and spending time with farmers who were 50+ years in age.

I recollect a farmer named Howard whom ran cattle and grew tobacco on 100 acres in central/eastern Kentucky. While we were sitting about one day after having sharpened the blades on a large batwing bushog: "Age is the fairest thing in the world. "

"How is that?" I asked.

"Because no matter how rich or poor you are, whether you are white, black or yeller, no matter if you're a man, a woman, a banker or a ditch digger - every year you get another year older and there's not a damned thing anyone can do about it."

But then we have the fact men age like wine and women like milk.. yeah, there's that. So bring on the gray hair.

Women used to yearn for grandchildren and great grandchildren as those lines grew on her face, belying a wisdom beneath that she would share with her offspring's offspring. Many women are realizing they are going to die alone with cats and a two-bottle a day wine habit.

I like this piece, mostly because it seems to show what aging should look like. Would not be surprised if ageing cunts denounced this as "ageist."
