It seems to me the purpose is to protect higher status women, who already own a man, from competition from attractive women who might offer him a better deal. If you consider all the laws they have demanded, you see that they make life terrible for women at the bottom class, by making it impossible for them to marry and improve their standard of living. Meanwhile, women at the top of the economic class, the ones you see with a very expensive lifestyle, driving the most expensive cars, tend to be old, unattractive, unemployed, and generally having nothing to offer men. Feminist laws protect them from competition from women who can be better wives in return for the money.

Not "just." It's also a marketing gimmick for attractive women, particularly after being shamed for not being feminists (see: Taylor Swift, Katy Perry). And it's a vehicle for advocating the legal formalization of the special treatment that non-celebrity attractive women already enjoy (see: alimony, child custody laws). And it's also a brilliant conspiracy theory for villainizing all men and granting victim status to all women in a culture that venerates victimhood (see: patriarchy conjecture).
