Dad bought me a complete Sears Craftsman tool set as a high school graduation present. Still using the same tools almost 20 years later. They have saved me so much money over the years and given me something to take my mind off all the bullshit.

Look at the classified ads for cool used/project cars. How many of them say "Wife says I have to get rid of it" , "Getting Married, Must Sell" , or the perennially tragic: "Selling to Pay For Wedding" For most guys, having a wife and having cool mechanical shit to fart around with are mutually exclusive.

For the young guys out there - IMO there is not much as important to men as 'building shit'. It's just how (almost) all men are wired, we get a lot of pleasure from such accomplishments.

Young guys have gotten screwed over by modern throwaway society, feminists and single moms - you don't have the opportunity to do this important man stuff.

Nothing makes me happier than doing this stuff.

Tools. I can remember justifying buying tools to my wife.
These days perhaps I am overcompensating but buying wire cutters, tape measures, basic spanners and screwdrivers et al in bulk so that each bench and each tool box/location has all the cheap things that you always use in it.

I did the exact same thing this summer. Except I took two whole weeks off work at the same time. Probably some of the most physically challenging work I've done, considering it was just me under there versus an army of rusted nuts and bolts. Well worth the effort in the end.

I turn them for a living. It's a rewarding job. The physical work, and the mental work. And no estrogen based parasite to bitch if I spend money on the tool truck. And at the level I'm at, it's not hand tools, it's specialty diagnostic tools.

This. I'm fortunate enough to spend money on my hobbies, such as my motorcycle and fishing.

I bought a new exhaust for my supersport and guess who gave me shit for it? My male friends said I have a problem. In my head, I told them to fuck off. You don't tell me how to spend my hard earned money.

This Sunday I will be fishing for tuna in the Atlantic with another mate from work and his friend and his friends son.

I dunno about you guys, but I find fishing a great bonding experience between men. I had the pleasure of fishing with some older gentlemen who have been great mentors to me. And the conversations were kept to a minimum. Because men, bond through actions and getting shit done. We're wired to accomplish things.
