Off compost try to learn from your father as much as you can, he seems to be doing some things right and if you're not a complete fuckup you might be able to help him help you. Ask him if you don't believe me.

Put together a personal schedule and stick to it. Study hard. Take notes. Actually go to class. Don't do drugs and drink. Be responsible. If you do that college is EASY. If you don't you will regret it. Learn to cook for yourself and eat healthy. Get a fleshlight. Might be worth investing in a tape recorder and some voice translation software so you can record classes and auto-gen a transcript. Find PDFs of college textbooks on torrents. UT is a great school. Capitalize on this opportunity. Don't be a moron and blow it like so many people do. Make your Dad proud.

Yes, if you have worked lined up then it's worth doing. I got a STEM degree and only graduated with a 3.0 which isn't enough to find work these days and makes it difficult to get into grad school. (After your first job, it doesn't matter but I am still looking for work). In fact any GPA isn't enough for work as you also need to find internship experience. The market is currently saturated (because a lot of women are forcing their way into STEM) so you have to be the best you can be to make yourself more appealing than the 'diversity quota hire'. It may be difficult but when you do find internship (remember, they filter by ethnicity and GPA), you will have to balance your studies and work life. You simply cannot spare what limited time and money you have on dating of any kind. Make sure your friends have a similar mindset and goals so you can reinforce each other.

In case you cannot find an internship remember that your classes won't be enough for engineering purposes. Try to join a engineering club to get relevant research under your belt. I wish I didn't spend so much time thinking about women and more time studying. I could've easily pulled of a 3.5 GPA had I just remained disciplined and disregarded idle thoughts about this girl or that girl.

One last note, you may be academically aware of how women are but even hooking up can throw your emotions out of wack at a younger age. You know yourself, but the best way to avoid getting attached to anyone is to avoid the possibility in the first place.

If you're not in college yet take as many AP courses as you can so you can earn credits that way. Also find a martial art that you like enough to stick with. Read The Manipulated Man by Esther Vilar, and the Rational Male blog, as well as The Fire (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) website.

Don't be one of those guys who thought that college were the best years of their lives. You have a headstart with your Dad and if you want trim then make sure they are Brazilian supermodels on the superyacht that you brought after your biotech company ipo'd.

Just keep your head down and avoid socializing at university. It really isn't that hard to keep to yourself at university. If you don't make the effort to talk to people then chances are they won't make the effort to talk to you.

get some good hobbies that get you outside and in nature. Learn to appreciate the small things, and the big ones too. Do not drink or take drugs!!!! And do not socialize with people who do so excessively, that'll save you a lot of trouble.

I hate universities and couldn't be happier to graduate next year. Just avoid becoming a marxist or some sort of "male ally". Also, academics are assholes who don't put effort into marking your assignments the same effort you put into working on them.
