I see family as a major hindrance towards living a fulfilling life. I was dating a girl for 4 years who I thought was going to be the one I marry and start a family with, when that fantasy fell apart due to typical AWALT circumstances I realize the time, energy and money I was spending on trying to nurture a relationship with a female could be focused on far more self-fulfilling endeavors. I run my own company, teach night classes at my alma mater as an adjunct professor, DJ at one of the restaurant & lounges I own, I travel around the world for 1-2 weeks at a time 4-5 times a year, my relationships with my male friends is stronger than ever. I am extremely satisfied and fulfilled by my life and I really feel introducing a wife and family into the picture would hold me back from being happy.

Doesn't anyone else want a family?

Well yeah, but one of the man reasons this sub exists is to show how unlikely it is that this will happen.

50% marriage failure rate (40 something % for first marriages even)
your kids are yours in name only and can be taken away from you for any reason at all, or no reason. If you want to fight it, the system will bleed you dry. Your SO, of course, can get legal representation for free.
your SO can be loyal to you, and you to her, but if you are disloyal, you will be forced to subsidize her lifestyle. If she is disloyal to you, you will be forced to subsidize her lifestyle. It doesn't matter who screws up. You are probably going to be the one to pay the price.
Almost none of the risk can be mitigated by a pre-nup.

The rewards of a family have been legally and socially diminished while the risks associated with trying have increased exponentially. There are people who, against all odds, will have a happy family, and will tell you to go ahead and try, but survivorship bias is a thing.
