Hate me all you want for saying this, but tradesmen typically don't make great money. The one's i do know making that kind of money started young, got lucky, and are quite talented.

The first piece of advice when i started working after trade school was "you're young and seem pretty smart. Get the fuck out of this before your body is beat to shit." Trades are not the answer people seem to think they are.

The funny/sad part is she'd never consider him marriage material. Most women with a college degree would never consider a man without a degree of equal or greater value. Salary is important to them, but if they hate it if you're not an "intellectual equal". Women have all the leverage and choice in the dating market and are able to apply any requirements they want. Normally moving up in status means you have to consider "dating down", but not for women. These special snowflakes "deserve the best."

A nursing or social work degree is not gonna carry its value like some dude who fucking majored in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering.

Many college students over here in my country (Portugal) think almost the same, somehow going to college is going to guarantee you a job for the future, and they look down to people who choose a different path like going to a professional school (which is specialized in a certain field) you get job experience and internships, after you finish you can pursue college or get a job in the field you study within months, it depends. The school itself is less about memorizing and more about experimenting and practicing.

However, a college degree is not useless, it depends on the degree you choose.
