If people aren't held to rules and laws, most people will eventually act beyond them, regardless of how others would think of them. At the end of the day, if there isn't a man with a gun waiting somewhere to break down a door if someone does something wrong, then the law means nothing and will be regarded as such.

If men could do this sort of thing and not be killed in jail for it after a trial that would last an hour, you'd find just as many cases of the reverse.
