Your DNA is not you, your DNA is not your consciousness, your children WILL NOT THINK LIKE YOU, they won't, maybe have some of your personality traits, that is it. Meanwhile they will cost you hundreds of thousand of dollars, they will at best grow up to abandon you in a old folks home to die alone and at worse they will be a disgrace to you, hate you, be a total and utter waste of your money, time and love.

Consider your opinion that passing your genes is important. So you buy a surrogate to carry your child.

Now consider the motivations of a bird raping another bird, causing it to be pregnant.

Both scenarios results in the same thing: you and the rapist bird die in a few years and some organism is alive later on with the same decision to make: try to breed or not.

The creation of the subsequent generation isn't mandatory and the only way it could matter in a negative sense is if there is a person there to give a damn. You'll be dead regardless.

But I digress. What's the importance of having babies? If you weren't a mgtow in the twentieth century and had to marry to have kids, would you give up your mgtow philosophy?

See, it's just a simple cost benefit decision, not a moral obligation or anything.

I am going to take the ego in the other direction. With the advance of technology and predictions by Ray Kurzweil and Aubry De Grey there is a decent chance we will become immortal beings by the 2040s or 2050s. Having children is not important when your lifespan is several thousand years.

Natural evolution is meaningless anyway because the next stage of human development will be artificial and lab grown. I feel like we are heading towards what biologists call another 'selective event' of natural selection where only those with the money to produce 'perfect' people will matter. Maybe within the next 100 years (which is nothing in terms of the billions of years previously)

I agree with half of what you say. But you have to remember that we are irrational creatures and only think we're rational. What I mean is we make decisions, we don't even know why we make them, and then try to rationalise our behaviour by literally making shit up. We just pull from the most common theories as to why we do things. And we are often very wrong. Read up on evolutionary psychology for more details.

But fundamentally we're programmed to want to reproduce. We can be viewed simply as DNA-replicating machines. (Studying evolution will illustrate this.) You can argue that a survival instinct and the need to reproduce are both "just ego" but whatever you call it it's just an irrational drive. Why should I care if I live or die - it's all meaningless anyway. But threaten my life and you will set off a wave of physiological reactions that will give me a greater chance of survival than had I maintained homeostasis.

I guess my point is that passing on our DNA is the whole point. It's what keeps this whole machine turning. It's why guys just want to fuck and why girls just want our resources; to ensure the best case scenario for the survival of our genetic replicates. Of course a 50% copy is the best we're going to get (putting aside modern technology for a moment), but that's just the rules of the game.

Please note that I'm not saying anyone necessarily has to play. I think part of what MGTOW is about, is saying "Fuck this ridiculous game, you guys don't even know you're playing it, and you're messing up the rules out of sheer stupidity and ignorance. I'm off to have fun. Enjoy your misery."

If you want to have children have them to love them and not 'pass your DNA', it's the most retarded reason to have children. Terror to 'pass your DNA' is one of the social programming to shame men into unwanted fatherhood like life would be some kind of game where you can 'win'.

I have probably fathered children I don't even know about and I'm not paying for. I don't feel bad about it just because society says I should feel bad about reproducing unless I do my share of diaper duty and play catch once a week. I don't buy any of that shit. Neither do most of the alphas and Chads in the world. You know? The guys who are actually quite successful in life and with women?
