I know some might call it cuckoldry to adopt the child of another man, however I think that it is something to be looked upon as a moral duty. Not for those unable or unwilling but for those who can and are willing.

Think of a child say around 12 years old in state care. They've likely had a less than perfect childhood, perhaps had a hard time in education and perhaps generally feel there is no point to life. They stand next to no chance of adoption as the ones people generally want are either pre-teens or babies.

Fundamentally these children are disadvantaged by their background, unable to realize their full potential and are at the tender age of 18 dumped onto the street and told to find something. Many will become homeless and others will turn to crime.

However among these there will be some. Those that will claw at the walls that hold them back and will try to climb beyond them by making something of themselves. They have no tutors, no money for books but a will to do something with their lives and not end up as many of their compatriots do. It is unrealistic for us to adopt the many thousands in state care, but if we were to adopt that top layer that wish to break free and give them the tools to do so, I think we can release many great people into the world.

Perhaps it will not do much as a whole, but for those few that are motivated and willing to put the sweat in to make something of themselves I want to help them. So that instead of coming out as say a mere successfully corner shop owner they will emerge as the lawyers, businessmen and professors of tomorrow.

Once they do I will simply move on to the next. Who knows, perhaps when my time finally comes, my body will be carried by my sons; perhaps not in blood but those shaped by me such that I can be proud of my creations.
