I'm 30M, have been a lurker on this sub and seen people vilify both the government and women, and that got me thinking. If you don't like to be challenged, please feel free to stop reading.
1- I think the government got it right at least in the intention (maybe not in the implementation) and here is why. If you are a man who wants kids, let us assume a scenario where there is no marriage or wife in the equation. Say you are able to have your kids through a surrogate mom. Now it's only you and the kids you've always wanted. First, you need to be able to provide for them financially until they can stand on their own feet, probably from birth till 18: that's called child support. Second, someone has to watch/raise/feed them 24/7. You could do this yourself. Personally, as much as I love children, I am very career oriented and would rather hire a nanny (or the same surrogate mom) who would do a better job than me anyway: that's called alimony. Third, the kids will be living with you or if for some reason you can't live with them, you still have to provide a roof over their head: that's the house she will take after divorcing you . So, if you want kids, you have to be ready to pay for all these (child support, alimony, roof) assuming there is no wife or mariage involved. So really, all the government is doing is making sure the kids you chose to bring into this world are taking care of. You yourself may be a responsible man, but we can all agree that not every man is. As a result, complaining about the government intervening in marriages especially during divorce is akin to complaining about the police trying to enforce law and order. Are the current laws fair towards men? certainly not. But you still need to sign a contract with the government if you want to bring innocent children into this world.
2- Regarding women, the mistake many of us make is similar to getting a cat and expecting her to behave like a dog. I don't know who started calling them cats or p*ssy, but that person is a genius. We expect women to always love us, be loyal, bla bla bla ... That's a dog buddy. Woman are cats, not dogs, though some of them could, for the sake of benefit of doubt, be loyal as dogs, just like some cats can be loyal and loving as dogs. I guess the point I'm trying to make is a fool would expect a woman to be loyal as a dog, but a wise man would know he is getting a cat. Instead of expecting love, loyalty... isn't it better to see her as the surrogate mom/nanny ? Im not suggesting that you shouldn't love her and treat her well. What I'm suggesting is that you should see her first and foremost as the care provider for your children who may decide at any point in time to stop living with you. But between you and I, as a responsible man, you still have to pay child support and compensate the nanny right? Doesn't matter whether or not she wants to live with you. It is only fair to the children you chose to bring into this world, and ofc that's all assuming you want children.
3- You may be wondering, why does the financial responsibility have to fall on the man? Again if you are hiring a surrogate mom and want her to be the 24/7 nanny to your children from birth till adulthood, from one human being to another, is it fair to expect her to still work and financially contribute towards raising those children on top of everything she is already doing ?
4- You may also be wondering, why do I want children ? They cost a lot of money... Well let me ask you. When you hit 60, staring at your millions in your bank account, alone in your mansion and I ask: would you want to trade half of your wealth for children and grand children (even if they aren't living with you) or would you rather keep all your money to yourself ? The choice is yours.
Feel free to call me simp, stupid... or any other name. I personally have been hurt by women and I try to avoid any relationship with them as much as I can. However, I still want to raise or at least have kids of my own to have a fulfilled life. And well, there is a price tag and it is only fair at least in my opinion to be ready to pay for: their subsistence (child support), the nanny (alimony) and a roof over their head (that is when she divorces me and takes the house). Even though I would try my best to be a loving father and husband, I won't be marrying expecting love and devotion from her ( she isn't a dog, remember ?). That is because I am confident my life would be more fulfilled with only half a million in the bank account, children and grand children than with just millions.
Women are what they are. Life isn't fair. We aren't going to change nature and turn a cat into a dog (literally and figuratively). Life is all about perspective. Instead of resigning, I personally still want to play the game knowing there is a high emotional and financial price tag on the fulfilment it has to offer. Not everyone is willing to pay the price and that is ok. At the end of the day, we all are here for a short period of time and what really matters is inner satisfaction and not everyone has to play the game of family/marriage/kids to find it.
