In my opinion, trying to suppress the urge itself might cause problems; it's a primal instinct. You can't control how you feel, only what you do about it.

Personally, I make sure it's my big head doing the thinking. Which means thinking about all the potential consequences. Mostly I just deal with it by rubbing one out (yeah I don't buy the nofap / semen retention thing).

I made a long list of pros and cons of getting sexually-romantically involved. I'm an analytical guy, so that approach helps me. It doesn't work for a lot of people, but it does for me.

It took me a long time to create the list. I really thought about it. I revised it many times, adding things, subtracting, rewriting, organizing. I didn't just look at the cons; I looked at the pros, too (the reasons to get involved, that is). I tried to be fair and objective, because I know that if I try to make a one-sided argument, my brain will eventually find a way of focusing on the other side.

Once I had the list drawn up, I could review it whenever I like. I've re-read it several times.
It helps to strengthen my conviction. It reminds me of angles I had forgotten.
