It was a joke? What are we supposed to think of this? It's the same as if you asked a question that could be related to guys thinking with their dicks. You would get the same responses from females. Or any other thing involving a stereotype of guys. They aren't being serious, stop taking everything to heart.

Today I was doing a questionnaire of the first 200 homeless people I saw, I asked them what obstacles women faced today, non of them cared, they were all men.

I have actually never seen a homeless woman. (England).

So, you're saying 12 men, and 7 women made a sexist joke, out of a total of 500.

So, 19 people out of 500 made a sexist joke... thats 3.8%

Thats pretty much all it tell us.

Unless you can give us a breakdown of the gender and marital status of the 500 people, it doesn't really say much. I've googled "Sams Club", as near as I can tell its an electronics store that targets male customers, so I'd expect more males than females to enter the store, and correspondingly more males than females to make bad jokes.

Theres also the factor that the whole subject of "dishes" is a very tired and worn topic for jokes, its almost as worn out as "men don't ask for directions". If you mention either subject, you'll get worn out jokes. If you'd been trying to sell GPS units I'm sure you would have got a lot more comments/jokes from women about their husband needing one.

And the other important factor is your gender. For obvious reasons men are more likely to make sexist jokes to other men, and women are more likely to make sexist jokes to other women...

However what I would be interested in is the people you say mad sexist jokes in front of their partners... Unfortunately with such a small sample size it doesn't really prove much. (My gut feeling is that women are more likely to make jokes at their husbands expense in public.)

Another opinion I didn't see expressed here is that you were obviously a sales person, who was obviously trying to use "do you have a dishwasher" or some similar question to start a "conversation" that wasn't a conversation at all, but a sales pitch.

I will do anything to shut down a sales pitch quickly. Often the fastest way is to convince the sales person that I'm too disinterested or too unwelcoming; that the conversation is unprofitable to them.

In a world where anyone gives a shit about some guys at Sam's Club making a dumb joke, this seems like if anything, it would be a women's rights issue, not men's. I don't understand the point of, 'Some men were being dicks--what do men's rights supporters think of that?'
