People searching through Wikileaks emails noticed some disturbing wording being consistently used and upon researching discovered those consistently used words amount to a type of coding commonly used by pedophiles. Further research into the people associated with the code led to connections between several businesses (some of which were restaurants that serve pizza) all within proximity of each other in Washington D.C. several of which used symbols in logos and other imagery which could correspond to known pedophile symbols.
As research went on, more and more links became found but no smoking guns--just a lot of smoke. But smoke enough to the point where it was compelling to continue to search out a smoking gun to explain how there could be this much smoke by coincidence.
The now banned sub was where the research and posted discoveries were being shared. The admins of the site apparently wanted to shut down the entire discussion, end research, etc etc, so they unmuted posters who the mods had banned from posting because those posters were posting personal information (aka doxing) and when those posters posted personal information the Admins closed and banned the sub.
This type of censorship displeased many people who felt the closing of the sub was censorship in aid of pedophiles and so they posted 'fuck spez' multiple times in the discussion of the closing of the subreddit. This apparently triggered the spez enough that he directly (without showing edits on the time stamps or any tells that the posts had been edited) changed the text of posts to the usernames of various /r/The_Donald moderators.
This causes the entire site to be rendered untrustworthy because spez has shown that comments cannot be proven to be unedited by an outsider. You can no longer trust that the comment you left is the comment others will read. Others can no longer trust that the comment they read was what you /u/TibsKirk actually said.
Anyone who was ever convicted of a crime based on a reddit post now has a get out of jail free card in countries with a 'reasonable doubt' standard because they can point to this to claim they were framed and can appeal their convictions.
TL;DR? Reddit is fucked and we need to find a more trustworthy place to post.

Who says this is the first time? How can you believe it will never happen again? This time he wanted it to be noticed as this was his way of thumbing his nose at users of a subreddit he dislikes--who is to say that he has to be that obvious about it the next time? Or the time before last?
It's a trust issue. Can you trust that the post you made\read is the post the poster wrote? Can you believe the admins\moderators when they say a user was banned for saying something against the site's TOS or will you always have that little doubt in the back of your head from now on?
