I do remember that North Carolina if your spouse cheats on you, that's grounds for divorce for cause. But more importantly to Person that she with the spouse is financially liable. So if you end up losing in the divorce, you can sue the person she cheated on divorce and emotional suffering..

Annulments require a specific set of circumstances and evidence to be granted so if you're going to go to another state to try to annul there look up the requirements and see if they apply

Although the rules vary slightly by state, they are substantially the same in that they require an element of ‘failure’ from the start…..as well as requiring residency in that state. Incest, mental capacity/ability to consent, or fraud are the basic requirements in all states.

And yes, you would need co-operation from your spouse as you have to serve them and they have an opportunity to appear in court.

I believe there are additional reasons to be granted an annulment. For example, my ex filed for divorce (uncontested) after our 5 month marriage. When the judge heard that she was too drunk to remember the ceremony and taking vows, he granted an annulment rather than a divorce.

For only 4 months of marriage, I don't think you will lose much. Alimony should be off the table. Only money and assets acquired since marriage should be involved in the divorce.

Only 4 months dude? Unless you put her on the car title and the house deed you probably don't have too much to worry about unless you made babies. You can't expect anyone to help you or offer much advice when you don't really describe your circumstances. Annulments only work when there's evidences the marriage was entered into under fraudulent or misleading circumstances. If you can't prove that then that is not an option for you.

Start with a lawyer, but don’t escalate to an attorney unless it gets that far; which it likely won’t with only four months of marriage there should not be anything to have to negotiate as far as alimony or children.

Even if you can’t get an annulment, flee and file for divorce as you need. Sorry 😢
