When I asked my dad why he put little efforts into meals he pointed out it motivated us kids to cook instead

I learned to cook food (that my dad paid for in the grocery store),

using books from the library (that my dad bought the subscription to),

using the reading skills (from the school that my dad paid to send me to),

with the kitchenware, gas and electricity (whose bills my dad paid),

in the house (that my dad pays mortgage for),

and my whole existence (that my dad has to work hard to sponsor).

And he needs to work 8 hours a day in his office at at least 2 hours a day at home to clean, and maintain the house. But lo, I learned to cook! Look at me, I saved the universe!

Also: The mom left. It's not male incompetence; it's female arrogance that led to this situation.

This is just a person expressing their experience.

For starters she stated that her “mother” left so if this was a men are shit post she probably would have omitted that part.

If the child is ten and learning to cook to help out well that’s a common complaint, I had to do the same and both my parents worked doubles.

Several decades later and I can still turn flour and water into a master chef winner.

I don’t think this person is shitting on men.

If they're telling the truth then that's still a really shitty and neglectful situation. While it's hard being a single parent, you still have a responsibility to raise your kids and cooking is a part of that. I never hear about single mothers pulling this shit and yet I know single fathers who just dont care about raising the kids they have to live with. I dont get how people are defending the father in this situation, I understand getting your kids to help out as a way to prepare them for adulthood but this is just lazy. Also I think that, in general there needs to be more support for single parents so that they have more time to raise their kids (but even then some people arnt fit to be parents and no outside help will change their behavior).
