Honest question, are there any laws in place that specifically grant rights/privileges to men that women do not have? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely interested if such laws exist.

Same for caucasian people vs. "persons of colour", which is a term I don't really like, but seems to be the PC term du jour.

You can ask the other person to identify the specific privileges you, as a man, are enjoying. It's easy for someone to generalize about privileges because they just picture in their head a good looking, straight, white, upper-class male, and any advantages he has they attribute to being male.

But, when faced with a particular individual, it's a lot harder to pile on bullshit privileges, like getting to be President.

If they are open to a real conversation, it would come down to arguments about statistical data. In this case, you could look at lifespan, suicide rates, etc. and their options are to call it bad data or bad conclusions or supply their own competing facts.

If they are just arguing the whole "those with privilege can't see it" thing, you can't have a real discussion with them since they are appealing to knowledge hidden to you. You can't have a logical argument with someone about religion who bases their position on divine revelation, and this is a similar situation. If their position isn't based on objective reality and is based in subjective reality, you should quit arguing and move on. "Feels > Reals" is a losing game.

All of this discussion should be couched in an acknowledgement that statistics for collective groups may not hold down at the individual group level or for all situations.

It's the same as saying women were oppressed by the patriarchy because men forced them to be stay at home moms when they were just as "forced" to work in coal mines or some other job where they could potentially die to support a family because women weren't able to do those intensely physical jobs. It wasn't men enslaving these women, it was men and women doing what was necessary at the time. What they call oppression, was actually men and women working as a team to make sure their family had a roof over their heads and didn't starve. The whole privilege thing is a non-point because men don't have privilege over women, whites don't have privilege over blacks...every group has some sort of privilege in one way or another and it's easy to for anyone to not see their own privilege because others have something they don't. Sometimes people want what they can't have and the fact that they can't have it pisses them off.

This whole idea of white male privilege being a golden ticket to becoming some sort of movie executive is ridiculous.

That is not how privilege works. Being a white dude doesn't get you a free pass to make movies, but it's not a coincidence that white dudes are over-represented on both sides of the camera.

This is not the world I want to live in, where I have to worry about some random psycho listening in on my conversation, feeling entitled/eager to interject because I used one of their trigger words.

Yeah, wouldn't it be awful if you just wanted to hang out and see some panels, and someone was standing next to you for hours doing things that made you uncomfortable?
