This is how to fail Biology - by taking lessons from Andrea Dworkin. I really dislike people ruining my science - sorry for the ensuing long-winded explanation:

Let me break things down: Gender in humans is determined by the presence of the Y chromosome, not the absence of an additional X chromosome.

Females have two copies of the X chromosome, but in their cells, one of their chromosomes is rendered permanently useless by a process called X-inactivation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-inactivation

Think of your cell as a kitchen and the X chromosome as the basic cookbook for all the essential recipes you need - with 2 chromosomes, your cells basically have double the instructions and left to itself, the kitchen would churn out double the quantity of everything ordered based on two potentially different recipes (since the cookbooks are not necessarily identical in content). This isn't benign as it could quickly lead to problems if you're flooded in excessive human growth hormone, for example.

X inactivation solves this by randomly picking one of the cookbooks and gluing it shut so that nobody can read it. So basically, for the rest of that cell's life, the chromosome just sits around and does absolutely nothing. For Y chromosomes though, both chromosomes undergo expression since the Y chromosome is more like "a little extra something" and not a redundant cookbook (though it's quite full of redundant/junk DNA, which is something else). The Y chromosome is not a contaminant, it's just a chromosome which can actually coexist, express itself and append to an X chromosome without causing problems.

Edit: I actually happen to like women quite a lot, but if I went with this insane batshit logic the writer is spewing, I'd have to come to the conclusion that female cells are the overly entitled with a privileged abundance of genetic information and can't get anything done until they learn self-control and when to shut up. (the process of X-inactivation is actually called silencing)
