On the one hand, this is a great web strip. On the other, the artist is a straight up fascist. An example of his comment section on an anti-LGBT cartoon: "kill every faggot. purge the world of their filth". I feel a deep concern about men's issues on the one hand, but on the other I see an over-representation of toxic right wingers holding up our cause. Which makes some sort of sense, since left wingers have been so hostile towards our problems. But I'm just hoping there are more centrist/liberal men's rights activist who take a nuanced view of things. At the very least I hope most of us are against fascism.
Fascism is famously difficult to define but in general it can be seen as follows: an ultra-nationalist ideology that seeks to unite those who they see as "the true 'people'" of a nation by demonizing and even calling for the elimination of those they see as degenerates. What liberals often get wrong is that they assume the mainstream right is already fascist, when in actuality it's only the stepping stone to fascism, which they might reach in the next 5-20 years if they keep this pace of radicalization up. You can see it in some of the comics that this guy drew.
And the reason I'm "obsessed with material sources" is because when you recognize that people in general aren't capable of critical thinking (they form their ideologies based on personal experience and identity, not reason), the corollary is that the more visibility a piece of rhetoric gets, the more likely it is to get a foothold in public opinion. You think all the great political movements in history were magically reached because a net positive of people reached the same conclusion thanks to the free market place of ideas? No, it's mostly about exposure. The free thinking stuff is cute but in general only philosophers, scientists etc. have the capability of seriously engaging in such thinking. Even still, I'm not opposed to the free exchange of the vast majority of ideas, even if they're uncomfortable to my views. And on a free speech level (the government intervening), I'm not opposed to any speech. But I certainly express my hostility towards the sharing of ideas that have the potential to end in the subjugation and execution of people, especially when I see the right on stepping stones towards that direction.
Those last few sentences aren't softening anything, they are 100% what I believe. Your response is based on the assumption that I'm lying or I don't truly believe those last few sentences, which is again 100% wrong. Since most of your post misrepresents what I actually believe, it doesn't make sense to respond to most of it, especially since I told you what I actually believe. And I'm not a leftist, I'm a liberal of the Macron/Obama variety. And I never said we should enforce a society in which only the philosophers and scientists can think; that's an anti-liberty position more suited for the right. Liberals, on the other hand, understand that there is no perfect solution and it's much better to allow people to say crazy shit than enforce an authoritarian government. I'm just arguing for the practical realities that most people aren't capable of actual thought, and that it's the job of political activists to try and steer society away from insanity (for example, by not spreading fascist ideas). A stable society is a fleeting thing, I don't believe human beings are capable of going more than a few decades without fucking things up. It must be constantly fought for by people who value liberal democracy.
