I’ve heard a lot about mothers suffering from postnatal depression, but strangely never fathers. Quite often there are posts on imgur a man has made about his partner being really strange, changed or even possibly violent, and he’s told it’s postnatal depression and “you need to be there for her, what you’re doing isn’t enough.” Now men are being told “you need to be open, what you’re doing isn’t enough” in regards to their own mental health. I think it’s great postnatal depression among fathers is finally being recognised, but as this clip shows, the onus is still on men to bring it up and sort it out. There’s no idea that mothers should support the mental health of their partner, or what signs of postnatal depression might be. Even when a man considers taking his own life, it’s men who need to sort it out and change.

Yep, because "Women are objects and Men are agents". No one believes this more strongly than feminists.

Objects have no free will or control over themselves/others/the world.

Agents have total control, and nothing happens in their world without their express permission.

So a woman with postnatal depression is absolutely powerless to do anything, and can only collapse into the fetal position and wait for someone else to take pity on her wretched form.

But a man with postnatal depression still has total control over his actions, and therefore should be able to fix it himself without help. Hell, he always has total control over his own mind, so he must have brought it on himself somehow.

Recognise this pattern and you will start seeing it everywhere.

  • Both drunk? Man's responsibility to stop the woman having sex with him or else he's the criminal.

  • Teacher rapes a student? Can't be, student was male, and males are always in control of everything. He probably pressured that 45 year old divorcee into it.

  • Woman abuses her husband? He deserved it, shouldn't have made her angry. Also, its his own fault for not being strong enough to handle her.

  • Woman gets pregnant? Does nothing for nine months? Gives birth to a baby? Doesn't give it up for abortion? The man made her do it, he must be held responsible for her his actions.

At the end of the day there is only so much one person can do for someone else's mental health, especially if they, aren't a properly trained mental health professional.

Movember 2014 - Men Suffer Post Natal Depression
An identifiable group of men appear to be having difficulties adjusting to the challenges of the role of father and evidence indicates that significant numbers of fathers are experiencing post-paternal depression following the birth or adoption of their baby. The men experiencing post-paternal depression seem to be largely being missed in primary health care settings possibly because their distress is generally below the level required for referral to specialist mental health team.
A review published this year (study 18) examined research related to postnatal depression in fathers, which included an overview of interventions aimed at preventing or treating the condition. Only one intervention was described in detail, which was an antenatal education programme led by a male facilitator with 6 week postpartum education and support materials for men with a breast feeding partner. Fathers assigned to the intervention group had significantly lower levels of depression and distress at 6 weeks post-delivery. Social support seems to be a potentially important factor, with 1 study suggesting that fathers who perceive higher levels of perceived social support throughout the pregnancy experience significantly lower levels of depression and distress 6 weeks after the birth.

In all fairness.... Dads don't tend to be the ones killing the kids. Only women with Postnatal depression murder there children.

That's because mothers are the ones most often around newborns.
