I recently made a post here on reddit about my frustrations in the industry I work for. I feel as if I've gotten my past two internships because I am a woman, rather than for my skills...due to the fact that, when I left my first internship, my boss specifically set out to find a female replacement, due to the 30:1 ratio of men to women in the office. I don't want to take away a job from a man that's more qualified just to fit some quota...

I guess I've never had a problem with it. I'm only 20 though and most of the jobs I apply for are pretty standard, college-student positions so maybe the professional world is different.

Yet I think the key phrase is "optional" here; hell, if you really wanted to check, why not try putting "black male" or "hispanic male" or something like that and then if they ask you about it, just say it was a misclick. See if that actually changes your chances at getting the job. I'd love to hear if it does :D and if it does, the company is run by shitheads.

whenever i get the chance, i always fill in race as "human". I've been considering changing that to "half-orc"...
