Why would that make us look dumb when we point out that it's dumb? Have you considered that these feminists you spoke with might have cared about "manspreading" then found out it was a losing issue so now they don't?

Most feminists tried to deny fathers custody and even visitation of their kids. Father's rights have now become mainstream. Most feminists now don't publicly oppose father's rights. Some have tried co-opting it claiming feminists care about father's rights. Some have even suggested that mothers are the people mostly hurt when father's don't have rights (denying paternity leave forces women to stay home and ruins their career type deal). I'm uncertain if most don't oppose it in private or at least to a substantial extent. There are a few that still oppose it semi-publicly.

Oh for god's sake. You think that feminists are fighting AGAINST toxic masculinity? They may say they are, but in reality they're reinforcing it.

Based on the context, I'm assuming here when you say "toxic masculinity" you're referring to the gender roles and expectations we place on men which are harmful to men. Most of them are because we care and have always cared more about the wellbeing of women than we do about that of men.

And yes, harmful male gender roles have existed since the dawn of our species. Men's role throughout history has been to shield women from any harm whatsoever, for example in sending men to war to die while women and children stayed back home to live, in letting women leave the sinking ships first before men did, in placing legal obligations on men to provide their wives with all necessities, in protecting women from incurring debt in their own name and putting the accountability for that debt onto men, and even in holding husbands accountable for the crimes of their wives.

But this expectation is still being held over men, by none other than so-called "progressive" feminists who seek to tear down the status quo. Men need to make way for women and offer them positions of power. Men need to take on responsibility for women during sexual encounters because women are uniquely unable to consent when they're drunk or merely intimidated by a big scary man. Men need to “offer more respect” to women and never never never do or say anything bad to a woman, even hurt her feelings by making an offensive joke. Men should personally pledge to never hurt a woman in any way. Men need to take steps to protect women from violence, despite the fact that the system already penalises violence against women more than it does violence against any other group. Men need to take steps to protect women from domestic violence while sidelining male victims of domestic violence because protecting women is the priority here. Men need to support "listen and believe"-type policies that trample over men's due process rights because it would benefit some women in the process. Men need to protect women from harm even at the expense of men, because it’s the least they could do!

Wake up. This is the exact same shit we’ve been doing for forever. Feminism has done nothing to combat gender roles for men, it's just the same obligations and expectations we've always placed on men repackaged in a different, more "progressive" light. It still elevates women as a special class of people who are entitled to protections and privileges, and it places the responsibility on men as a class of people who need to provide these protections for women, even at risk to themselves and their own wellbeing. Feminists are in support of harmful male gender roles as long as they benefit women.

The only difference between traditionalism and feminism is that the former honours and respects men for fulfilling their role, and the latter spits on them and vilifies them for not doing enough to fulfil their role.

Wow, I've never seen any feminists tell men to quit energy exploration or construction or any other dangerous trade that keeps society moving. They should be telling men to quit because it's "toxic masculinity" for men to risk their lives for a higher pay check because men are valued for money in this society.

There was a college in Canada about 7 years ago. Some people, male and female students, tried to create a men's center because the man in the group contemplated suicide and thought that it would be great to have a center supportive of men. The feminists opposed it.

So to be clear feminists oppose toxic masculinity which negatively affect women. They support or at least do not oppose toxic masculinity that benefits or is neutral to women.

Alright. Let's go back to the initial comment that triggered this entire shitstorm, which supposedly covers the topic you came here to discuss.

This sub is a huge circlejerk that has basically two jokes / topic : Manspreading and Gillette. The rest is actually critizing feminists for not doing anything about men’s condition, yet here nothing is done either.

When you sort by top on this subreddit in the past 24 hours:

The first post that comes up is about celebrating men who put themselves in danger to save others.

The second and third posts are about Gillette.

The fourth post is about a lawmaker bringing his baby to the parliament after coming back from paternity leave.

The fifth post is about Gillette.

The sixth post is an example of discrimination against men where men are charged more for admission.

The seventh post is about prostate cancer and how it is not covered under Obamacare.

The eighth post is about manspreading.

The ninth post is another example of discrimination against men where a person declined to accommodate men at their AirBnb.

The tenth post is about a woman who attempted to get money from men she had sex with by pretending to be pregnant and asking for money for an abortion.

So out of the top ten posts on this subreddit today, only four were either about Gillette, manspreading or criticising feminists. Less than half. The rest were about topics unrelated to those.

Let's do more, shall we?

The eleventh post is about the portrayal of men in shows.

The twelfth post is about men's shorter life expectancy (though it does also criticise feminism in its post title).

The thirteenth post is about a misandric statement that some actress and singer made.

The fourteenth post is about double standards.

The fifteenth post is about unfair generalisations of men.

The sixteenth post is about a criticism of feminism.

The seventeenth post is about a legal case.

The eighteenth post is a question about how to talk about men's rights issues without being dismissed.

The nineteenth post addresses an unfair condemnation of men.

The twentieth post is about someone saying that men are "self centered sex fiends".

Out of the top twenty posts on this subreddit today, only six are about Gillette, manspreading, and criticising feminism. So even your initial statement where you said that we only cover these three topics, is in fact STILL completely and utterly wrong.

It's almost as if you've been full of shit the whole way through.

Untrue, feminists get criticized FOR doing something about men's conditions. When feminists take on men's conditions it's almost entirely to the detriment of men.

For example, the Michigan chapter of NOW opposed changing the unrebuttable presumption of paternity for children born to a married woman. Feminists pushed to eliminate due process rights for men (Only men, they're critical when women are denied due process for doing the exact same thing or worse contrast the initial reaction of #metoo to the allegations against Weinstein and Argento. They attacked Weinstein without mercy. We were admonished to "be gentle" with Argento because "all the facts weren't out" and "she might be exonerated".

It wasn't until after there was a backlash against #metoo that they started changing their tune and even then they suggested we wait for due process.
