Sounds discriminatory to me. It has come up elsewhere a million times, so you may find they will change their policiy, if in factc it really even is policy.

Oh, and when you get that cleared up, take a look at the way work is assigned - do you always get told to lift things, do you always get told to do the dirty work? If you are the junior person there, that's one thing, but if not, that is discriminatory too.

You have seven managers? What's going on with that?

Dress codes can indeed be gender-specific. It might be iffy if it's not part of the written dress code, but if it is, you're completely out of luck.

You should have access to what the current policy is on McDonald's corporate site. I'm not sure if they can have separate policies for non-corporate owned stores.

Here is what I've found so far.

Males are permitted one (1) small earring in the ear lobe. Information is accurate as of 9/16/2008.

Sounds like their grooming policies are from around the 90s still. It all honesty, it's not worth the fight. This is just how business operates. Men's Rights generally don't spend too much time on issues like this.

Dealing with this directly probably won't help you a lot. Documentation is key here. The best thing that could happen is if a customer overheard you being berated and wrote corporate a letter of complaint.

What does your contract say? If this isn't covered under dress code then they can't make you take them out, and you have got very little chance of fighting the issue. If it is covered, I suggest you report your management in writing to their superiors for favoritism and refusing to follow corporate regulations.

Yeah, most guys in the business world aren't allowed to wear shorts, even on really hot casual Fridays … while women can wear skirts/dresses everyday.

And most places don't allow men to wear sandals, even the really nice ones, while women can wear them everyday.

But there are many other, larger, problems than dress code.

Jespersen v. Harrah represents the current legal rule under Title VII in regards to gender specific dress codes and grooming policies. The tl;dr is that they are considered legal.

It is possible Pennsylvania has a state statute that would prohibit, but I am not going to dig into it.

Honestly this is a very common view of attire that is expected of the genders. Women are expected to have earrings. Men, not so much. Just like women are expected to sometimes wear dresses and skirts. If a man did, it'd be taken quite badly and for good reason.
I wouldn't fight that. There really isn't a lot to go after all in all.

When i was 17 i worked at Big Lots and all of my managers were women, and I had to do all the "fun" heavy stuff... never again!

Update: I called HR, then today the highest ranked manager at my store said she's going to have a meeting with me tomorrow to implement changes. Success
