It is not limited to men. After this case set the precident even preteen boys have had to pay the middle aged women that mothered their children child support the moment they turn 18 or go to jail for contempt of court. It has happened in several other states citing this case.

Hermesmann successfully argued that a woman is entitled to sue the father of her child for child support even if conception occurred as a result of a criminal act committed by the woman.

Part of the problem is that men have no choice in these matters...letting women dictate laws that get passed was never a good idea.

Hi. I am a lawyer in Canada, so I can only speak to Canadian Law.

If one partner brings all or most of the money to the table, the other partner can walk away with half. They can divorce for any reason. This includes cheating on you and then leaving you when you are willing to work things out.

Not true. If one partner comes into the marriage with property/money, that property is not divided 50/50. It is typically treated as exempt property. You only lose the exemption is you intermix that property such that it is impossible to identify at the end of the marriage.

But if you come into the marriage owning a $100,000 condo, and at the end it is worth $150,000, your ex would only get half of the $50,000 growth ($25,000).

Child support: Forced by gunpoint from the state to give your ex money to spend on your offspring. Your ex now can dictate if they want to spend it on luxury items for themselves, going out, bills, and however your ex wants to spend it on "your offspring".

Child support is money for the child. If the child lives with you, then YOU get the child support. The money is not for the spouse, it is for the kid. And trust me, child support does not fully compensate someone for the full cost of a child.

They are called "women" not females. And I have never encountered a relationship where the woman brought "only her vagina" to the table. Most relationships are partnerships where both parties work, both outside of the home and inside of the home. If you don't want a relationship where your partner "brings only her vagina to the table", then don't marry that kind of person.

No, how about instead you are free to provide for your offspring how you see fit. Yes deadbeat dads exist, but guess what I believe most men will want to provide for their offspring.

Most men do not provide for the kids because they think exactly like you - "the money goes to the ex spouse". Men and women can voluntarily pay support to their kids without going to court - and they can pay more support than the minimum if they want. In those situations, Child Support laws are irrelevant. For all the other situations, Child Support laws are absolutely necessary, because most people won't do it voluntarily.

Don't use that word. It makes you sound like a complete creep. They aren't offspring, or progeny. You don't sire them. They are called children, and you are their parent.

Your only ideas is that we should make child support voluntary and allow people to separate without dividing property. Child support can't be voluntary, because there will always be people who refuse to pay. Division of property already allows people to opt out by agreement by signing prenups/postnups. These agreements are enforceable, and hard to displace if they are signed with legal advice.

I think divorce needs to change to be you walk out with what you financially put into it.

The cost of working that out (since if anyone taking more than they put in that would be illegal) would be greater than the cost of most couple's combiened assets.

There is a reason why child protection laws exist.

Wellfare and adoption can try to fill in the gaps from the "bad men".

So you want to increase taxes to cover for people not wanting to pay for their kids? Not going to be very politicaly popular.
