but really, a gay kid in my school did all of these things and he had to tell me for me to know. and there were guys in my school ten-folds as stereotypically gay as him and no one thought they were gay, i don't know where you're from but i know its not where I'm from.

if you dislike something the least you can do is prove its real.

I'm not sure what accessorizing actually entails, but if you include "picking the appropriately coloured ball cap to match what I'm wearing" as that, then I do all of those things, and I'm a happily married straight dude. It's kinda preposterous, those assumptions, in this society.

I'll sometimes wear a pink tie when meeting clients. Usually, it's matched up with a royal blue shirt and a black suit, but I've never heard any comments.

Such boring stereotypes of acceptable male behavior appear to be dying, fortunately. What is odd is that people who claim to be progressive/feminist/gay-postive/whatever still use these stereotypes to try to shame and control straight men.

For me personally it's not the worst thing ever but it can be a bit annoying and I wouldn't be surprised if some guys have had bad experiences because of it, or don't venture out of the box in fear that they may be judged for it

eh. on one hand, a reason why these stereotypes/profiles formed is usually because a lot of people (in this case, gay men) tend to follow that formula. Now all of the gay men I've known (and I've known quite a few, since my brother is gay and open with his accepting family) have done SOME stereotypical stuff.... but then again, so have I. And I'm not gay.

So it stands to question, IS there a stereotype? And here's the next thought... are stereotypes bad? I would say they could be, and usually are, but they aren't in and of themselves bad - they are only "bad" when someone is adversely affected by others inherent perceptions of them.

Obvious and probably terrible example (sorry black mras) -

Black people are lazy good for nothings - this is obviously a bad and very harmful stereotype, as it prevents people from judging someone based on their work, maybe even prevents them from getting a job.
Black people eat fried chicken a lot. WHO. THE. FUCK. CARES. How is this stereotype even remotely harmful? I suppose the only way it could be harmful is if someone acts upon it, such as upon hearing a black couple is having a wedding, throwing out all food orders and just getting take-out for the wedding from KFC. Or someone calling someone out, "I thought all black people liked chicken, is there something wrong with you?!"

Just my thoughts on it - I personally am a strange individual who can be quite partial to a deep purple on occasion, and I do like my scented candles (gingerbread atm, though I really like apple cinamin :D), so who really knows - the stereotype that I MUST be gay because of these things may hurt me in the future, but I'm not certain as to how they are now, atm.
