While I was homeless, I spent quite a few months "living" at a Salvation Army lodge. They're not very helpful.

I received some assistance from them in the way of counseling. While, they were helpful to me for a time, make no mistakes about them. They are primarily funded in the U.S. by the government. You are effectively dealing with a branch of the government and they will abide by the government's dictates. They should not be considered a charitable organization.

Why or why not?

I'm not aware of their stance on men's rights specifically, but the fact that they're a homophobic religious organization alone completely rules them out for me.

The 'army' bit also isn't just a name, they literally have ranks from what I've heard.
